Never change, Joystiq.
OnLive's mobile app hits and misses (with launch compatibility list)
Dec 7th 2011 10:22PM (Joystiq)They could have something like a clip-on piece of plastic right on top of the controller for you to snap the smartphone on. Not totally seamless and wouldn't work on the iPad, but it's something at least.
Toys R Us, Amazon do buy one, get one half-off on all video games
Dec 5th 2011 10:04PM (Joystiq)And then they wonder why Steam is dominating that entire market.
EA: Online Pass can expire for new-game purchases, but it shouldn't
Dec 3rd 2011 5:20PM (Joystiq)Perhaps console gamers will now truly understand just how cumbersome and annoying bad DRM can be, instead of the usual "LOL PEE CEE GAMERZ ARE WHINY BABEES" quips.
Truth of the matter is, half the people saying that only said it because they themselves had zero firsthand experience, but now that the shoe's on the other foot let's see if egregiously bad DRM is as swept under the rug.
Rumors: Dead Space expands into FPS and flight, Dragon Age goes multiplayer
Nov 30th 2011 5:21PM (Joystiq)Problem is, you're comparing Rocksteady to EA. Rocksteady was obviously competent enough to make a game that turned out well. EA has shown time and time again that they have absolutely no qualms about running a franchise to the ground just to make a buck on the short term.
As amazingly poor as these ideas sound, it's not completely crazy for EA to do something like this, and THAT is what is scaring people.
Rumors: Dead Space expands into FPS and flight, Dragon Age goes multiplayer
Nov 30th 2011 5:19PM (Joystiq)I'm pretty sure the response to this is "Want a flight sim? Go play one instead of Dead Space, an established horror 3rd person adventure game" rather than "Want a flight sim? Let's completely change an established horror 3rd person adventure game into a flight sim and tell everyone who wants the former to GTFO and not play it".
So, in other words, want a flight sim? Fine, go play one.
Rumors: Dead Space expands into FPS and flight, Dragon Age goes multiplayer
Nov 30th 2011 5:16PM (Joystiq)It'll get a flight sim reboot.
With multiplayer.
Protip: GamePro gives up on print and online
Nov 30th 2011 5:06PM (Joystiq)Wasn't it brought back? Or did it die again?
Protip: GamePro gives up on print and online
Nov 30th 2011 5:05PM (Joystiq)Yes, because I'd much rather read 4 Chan than a print publication.
Good god, dude.
4.5 million pirated copies of Witcher 2 out there, according to CD Projekt
Nov 30th 2011 4:38PM (Joystiq)Again, you're playing into emotions too much. "How can I not feel angry"? By not feeling angry. By educating myself that a pirated copy isn't a personal attack on me or my work, but instead is the action of some low-life who sees fit to consume products he/she didn't pay for.
The basic laws of supply and demand define demand in a way that many "OMG PIRACEE" publishers simply do not comprehend. You see, "demand" is defined as a person who is BOTH willing AND able to purchase a product. That is the way any company, from furniture to car manufacturing to whatever you can think of, gauges demand.
People like SlyBeast don't constitute demand. They are able to buy but not willing. They don't satisfy the requirements for demand, and are thus not in the scope of a company. Just like a company like Ferrari would be stupid to advertise on low-income rural towns, it's equally stupid to let a portion of people who aren't even your market dictate how you run your business.
DRM is exactly that. It's companies too carried away by petty grudges letting people who aren't even part of their market dictate how they are going to publish their games.
CDProjekt continues to show maturity and competence by not letting themselves get caught up with petty grudges over how many non-consumers pirate their games. They know that DRM isn't going to change anybody's mind, they know DRM isn't going to increase their sales, and despite high piracy numbers they know getting worked up about it is completely futile. That, in my opinion, commands far more respect than some yahoo company like Ubisoft doing everything it possibly can to make everyone (legal and illegal consumers alike) miserable because they simply cannot and will not stand the fact that there's someone out there in the vast cosmos who didn't pay for the game they're playing.
