Jump in with FF VI and follow up with Chrono Trigger? Wrong way around buddy.
Chrono Trigger holds your hand almost the entire game, and gives you a good deal to do when grinding is the way forward, transforming boring button mashing to beneficial side stories.
FF6 on the other hand has this awful tendency to smack you in the face with a frozen tuna, and then laugh at you as you try to pick up the pieces of your patience.
Anonymous is an idea, not a group. These two individuals are clarifying that. Think of Anonymous as a single amorphous creature with thousands upon thousands of ways to influence matters at it's own discretion that has a chaotic good alignment. One of it's powers of influence are disabled, it quickly assimilates another to take it's place.
But these guys made a mistake referring to Anonymous as a movement.
Oh trust, I'm not so naive to think that this is an exploit exclusive to the PSN servers. Fact of the matter is, it was known, and known specifically to Sony. And they didn't do a do thing. Like you said, they were running such outdated versions to begin with, and didn't update. And they made these version numbers public.
I mean really. I don't know much about anything but....they're screwed, right?
Someone else said this, and I'm going to say it again.
Anonymous is not a group. Anonymous is an idea. The idea is to strike back at those that have done wrong, no matter how trivial. Jesse Slaughter was apparently too cocky for her own good, and got dropped the Anon-hammer. For the lulz.
The idea may cause some people to execute misguided attempts at retribution, like screwing with Sony's business and bringing down PSN with a DDoS attack. But stealing credit card and personal info of millions of people is a big jump from interfering with business.
My guess is that the people that did this are treating Anonymous like a lot of people here are. As a group. And they may have planted that file, identifying with the group. That points towards "disgruntled employee looking for a scapegoat" to me.
As for the "press release"...whichever individual wrote it has the right idea. Remember, Anonymous is just an idea, a state of mind. This person is trying to convey that the idea of Anonymous does not include breaking into a major corporations networks and retrieving sensitive information of people that have nothing to do with the offending party's actions (that party being Sony, in this case). A DDoS only interferes with business, and this is so much more. It's not the same idea that Anonymous loosely defines.
I like the idea of Anonymous, personally. I don't condone most, if any, of their actual actions. But the idea? I like it. It's like...faceless retribution. The hand of the deity. Or more simply....
Then they should have mentioned that they knew about the exploit and were in the process of fixing it when the security was breached. The fact that it wasn't mentioned by them at all reeks of "cover-up".
But hey, this is second-hand info. Let's just wait and see.
That's the image they're trying to shake. Nintendo used to have the same games as everyone else. It may have been called the Family Computer (Famicom), but it wasn't specifically family oriented.
I've never heard of this game either. Maybe you're talking about Spikey The Porcupine: 4? It's a pretty common bootleg game. Not quite a Sonic game, though.
Classic Sonic? Complete with skin-colored eyelids?
I don't think they've realized, truly, what they've done. I hope their bank accounts and accountants are prepared from the Sonic hordes that will buy this game on principle alone.
