Iwata: Nintendo passed on camera technology

Jun 11th 2009 3:22AM (Joystiq)
Just think of the other possibilities with Natal besides ingame functions. Browsing thru your 360 dashboard without a controller. Music, Videos, TV, Movies, Shopping and even a Web browser. Maybe even a PC Windows 7 compatibility. Just by reading hand movements or even facial expressions for people with disabilities or without. Think about it.

Iwata: Nintendo passed on camera technology

Natal will have it's own CPU that handles all the motion sensing from it's camera which will allow the 360 CPUs to operate normal ingame functions without any drag on the gameplay or graphics. Just like any other perephial, whether a controller, steering wheel, light gun, eye cam, etc., it will have a minimum effect on the game console. The Wiimote and PS3 waggle cam will rely more own their system resources. Being the Wii has a greater shortfall, it's system will be greatly overtax (as it already is) if it tried using motion sensing cams. That's why the big downplay by Nintendo. But they do print money. As for the PS3. Interesting.

Nintendo's making 1.8 million Wiis every month

Nov 20th 2007 3:19AM (Joystiq)
I don't buy that story at all. If they're only selling a little over 1 million a month, but claiming to make 1.8 million, stockpiling doesn't sound like a good investment in the electronic world. Manufacturing cost goes down during the lifespan of hardware, so why have a more expensive unit sitting when you can make it at lower cost later.

DFC predicts bright future for games, dim one for Xbox 360

My friend showed me all the latest offering from Sony for the PS3, and right now I can't stop from laughing. I have yet to seen anything or anything promising to show that PS3 has any advantage over the the 360. I'm taking that this analyst isn'y legit after all his speculations and that he's a first class phony.

I won't splurge for another until it goes 65nm and quieter operation. Wifi would be nice, too.

Gamestop shenanigans sell open games as 'new'

Mar 25th 2007 9:15PM (Joystiq)
This has happen to me several times and as recent as Tiger Woods 2007 Wii. I frown on this type of sale, but let it slide knowing that it was release a few days earlier and imforming this is their last copy. If it was a preorder, I would of blew up and left with a money refund. I don't know why they can't use a preorder display box and keep all their games sealed. And get this, they won't take a sealed game trade in. A non-sealed game is no different than a used game. Lately, I only buy a game from them that involves trade-ins. Which is what they want a higher markup.

Slimfast + Gamecube + 12 weeks = Wii. Online play is stuck in Gamecube mode too.
