Robbie Bach: broken Xbox 360s did not affect brand preference

Jun 13th 2008 7:10PM (Joystiq)
Actually, I'm not too surprised by this. I think all but a couple of the people I know who had/have a PS2 have replaced it at least once, if not twice. Usually because it would just stop recognizing certain disc types. But clearly, that did nothing to hurt the PS2's sales.

Off the Grid: Travel edition (part two)

My brother and I came up with one using the in-flight catalogs. The goal is to see who can come up with the item with the biggest useless-to-expensive ratio that can be found in it. So, the 3 thousand dollar butcher-block counter, which has some form of practical use, would lose out to the 1200 dollar ship's steering wheel made to sit in a corner of a room and look pretty, or the gold-plated "hot stuff!" license plate meant for wall decoration.

OJ Simpson + All-Pro Football 2K8 mascot = Drama

If Simpson is in bad taste, what about EA potentially having guys like Tank Johnson, Pacman Jones, and Michael Vick in their "officially licensed" game? I realize there's a scale here, but if having one guy is in "bad taste" shouldn't they all be? Or does still playing mean you are better?

Also, there was that NES dragonball game which i'm fairly certain is just unbeatable.

No Battletoads, eh? Still don't know anybody who beat that one without a gameshark..

RPG devs adapt or die, here comes the MMORPG

May 30th 2007 1:00PM (Joystiq)
What makes an MMO fun is also what can make them irritating. It’s freakishly close to being 8 again and playing in the local playground. You get to enjoy the aspects of an RPG while playing with all of your friends and some potentially cool people, but it's also like when your mom would make you play with that dorky mean kid down the street. You even get a lot of the old playground culture coming back again with people just trying to ruin your game or trying to join in your game when you don't want them. Oh, and let’s not forget, of course, calling each other gay in broken English. I can say that while I love a good MMO, after 3 months of it or so, I often find myself booting up an elder scrolls game or even the ol' copy of Wasteland and putting those monthly fees to rest for a while.

Online retailer says PS3 is 'most pre-ordered console yet'

Feb 20th 2007 5:10PM (Joystiq)
Wow, this is actually kind of surprising to me. I would have expected Europeans to notice that within about 2 months of launch, a PS3 could be picked up almost everywhere. I just hope that most of these are fools who think they can make a pretty penny on the online re-sell market. And that they all get shafted heavily.

What games are you ashamed to say you've never played?

Feb 13th 2007 5:58PM (Joystiq)
Starcraft... And I've been nearly lynched too many times to count because of it. I've been in groups or at parties where someone will say something to me like "Oh, it's just like the Zerg on that one level where you have to something something with the whoosawhatsits! you know? you know!" Then I have to admit that I never played Starcraft. Invariably, everyone stops talking and drops their beer bottles like in those old westerns when the bad guy walks into the saloon. Then they all yell at me and tell me how good it is. Eventually someone pats me on the back and says "it's ok, I never played ." in some attempt to console me, as if I had confessed to impotence or something.

The mind of a PS3 scalper (hint: it's not pretty)

Nov 20th 2006 4:46PM (Joystiq)
The solution is actually really easy. Don't buy a console from these guys who sell them on eBay. If you don't buy them, they won't sell them anymore. Not saying it's going to happen, but it would work if it did.
