Official EPA numbers posted for the '09 Jetta TDI - 30/41mpg

May 21st 2008 6:59PM (Autoblog)
This mpg rating is obviously inaccurate and there is evidence to back this up. The 2006 tdi with the same features, same body style, same platform and same safety equipment was said to average 33mpg. But on the governments own website (fueleconomy.gov) they have a section where you can input your real world mileage called "MPG estimates from drivers like you." Here input from 51 people say they average 41.9 mpg in mixed driving. That is a 9mpg difference from the epa estimated 33mpg which is a huge difference. Whereas a 2008 prius is said to average 46mpg and the people say they're averaging 45.8mpg. That is only a 0.2 mpg difference. Since the new tdi is said to get better gas mileage than the old one (34mpg versus 33mpg) You cannot deny that this test is inaccurate and as soon as this car is tested by someone other than our government it will prove that. Also the EPA test hundreds of gasoline cars per year and only a handful of diesels how can you expect their ratings on this essentially foreign engine to be accurate? Besides our government is in love with hybrids, the tax abatement is evidence of that, so how can you be certain they didn't purposely lower the numbers to make hybrids look better. There is no way VW would claim mid 50's on the highway if they had not proven that in real world tests. Nobody wants to get sued. It is unfortunate the EPA has the power to do that but they do and when all is said and done their numbers are what appear on window stickers, tv commercials and ads and it makes the jetta look that much worse and the hybrid that much better, when in reality they are off by 9mpg.

Recalled Ford owners urged to get cruise control fixed

Feb 29th 2008 9:43PM (Autoblog)
ha ha just went to the ford dealer to ask about this not fifteen minutes ago and they said the only thing they can do is disable the cruise control because they wont get the necessary parts in until may for my sisters 2003 ranger. Haven't even got anything in the mail. Meanwhile Volkswagen mailed me periodic reminders for my cars (2001 GTI) recall and couldnt have been easier or more friendly to schedule an appointment for the fix which isn't life threatening as this apparently is. Ahh that "crappy" Volkswagen service.

Detroit 2008: Volkswagen unveils the Passat CC

Jan 14th 2008 7:59PM (Autoblog)
According to Cars.com this'll start in the mid twenties and top out around the 40's. Sounds pretty awesome to me if it's mid twenties with the 2.0T and a six speed or even the fully loaded 4motion v6 wouldnt be a bad deal for 40 grand.

Lexus facing lawsuit over ES350 airbags

Aug 2nd 2007 2:15PM (Autoblog)
My dads 2004 Lexus Ls was in a front end collision at 30mph and the airbags didn't go off...we thought, oh it's a toyota it must have done that on purpose, because it had some reason to not deploy, but after reading these comments i guess maybe not.

30 minutes with the 2008 Toyota Highlander

Aug 1st 2007 11:30PM (Autoblog)
Don't get me wrong I don't like toyota very much either but you can't call most of their models ugly, tundra notwithstanding, they are completely inoffensive so how can they be ugly. And some toyota's are more "american" than "american" cars i.e. built in america and parts from america ect. (according to cars.com) so toyota owners aren't necessarily sending money to "the country of the rising meatball".

I would love to know who the last owners were because I have sat in probably that exact same car. I know someone who knows someone and anyways this guy has an amazing car collection and he had that exact same car, black convertible and everything. His collection of cars was amazing but that was the most amazing car I have ever seen. I am 99% positive I have sat in that car, wow...

Fusion knocks out Camry in Lienert review

May 6th 2006 8:22PM (Autoblog)
I think that Fusion is a very nice automobile, and is way nicer than anything gm can bring out. I also do not think it is fair to compare a 4 cylinder against a 6 cylinder, when the v-6, 6-speed, Camry LE starts at $23,620, less than the $25,000 limit for the test.

On terms of interior quality, I think Toyota has the hand having sat in both cars (car show). I think that most of that article was based on personal opinion. When they mentioned the Camry's "slipshod assembly" they failed to give any examples, not even one, to justify their opinion. Considering that most of the article like the interior, exterior, ride & handling, was based off of pure opinion. So It gives me the sense that they are just loyal to Ford which is ok, but don't post a biast article that has unfair comparisons.
