Real Racing 2 update adds four-player AirPlay streaming

I think a better use of the big screen would be to display the game with a tv-style presentation while cars whip past stationary cameras (like in racing games' replay mode).

Or at least make it an option.

The three terrifying minutes that created The Gunstringer

I live in Redmond. Matador's not bad. It's one of the few "trendy" restaurant/bar locations in Redmond that Microsofties can feel okay hanging out in without making the 30 minute trek to some hipster joint in Seattle.

The best bar in Redmond? If you want a good crowd and karaoke, it's Palmer's. If you want a sports bar, (with a free potluck buffet during Seahawk games!), it's J Michaels.

In case anyone was wondering, the Redmond-Kirkland area is nerd mecca. We have Nintendo, Microsoft, Bungie, Valve, Sony, Uber Entertainment, WB Games, DigiPen, Sucker Punch, Monolith, Turn 10, and Zipper Interactive.

USA Today: EA could lose over $1B in NCAA athlete suit

Aug 4th 2011 1:58PM (Joystiq)
99.9% of players probably don't give a rat's ass about this lawsuit. This lawsuit only exists so a small group of lawyers can profit 40% of the $1B.

I wish, for every frivolous lawsuit that gets denied, the lawyers responsible for wasting everyone's time and our country's money get fined a percentage of the lawsuit and are disbarred. That'll cut down on the crap.

Brink stat page, update now live on PC

Jul 20th 2011 12:42PM (Joystiq)
I have Brink on the 360 and have been playing since day 1. Used to spend most of my days playing BFBC2 and BlackOps. Now, I can't play anything but Brink. I love the teamwork aspect and the "SMART" parkour movement stuff. Really looking forward to the DLC and tweaks. Should drop any day now.

There's a good Brink population on the 360, but the PC and PS3 pop is hurting. PC's hurting b/c they hate that the game plays like a console game and the PS3's hurting because PSN was having those online issues when Brink was released.

The official Splash Damage Brink board is at:

...and we've started a Brink fan forum at:

Join us. We've got some good people there already and we play online a lot.

Sony experimenting with virtual reality games

Jul 18th 2011 5:06PM (Joystiq)
I hate to be a Negative Nancy here but:

VR (with 3D) games will NEVER work without giving most people a splitting headache within 30 minutes, until they implement eye-tracking into the headset. Why, you ask? Because of the way eyes focus on things and the way the brain interprets those images.

In reality, when your eyes focus on something close, the things in the background get all out of focus aka blurry. Same for the vice-versa. But in VR games, everything's in focus all the time. So, while your eyes are looking at something close, the background should get blurry but it does not.

I'd think it shouldn't be a big deal, but the problem is that your brain is freaking the heck out because it can't figure out why stuff you aren't looking at isn't getting blurry. You consciously don't realize it, but we've been programmed this way after millions of years of evolution. Brain no likey. This is one of the main reasons that the Nintendo VR-Boy failed: People were getting splitting headaches within 10 mins of gametime. Coulda just been because the games were THAT bad too though.

If you want an even-worse headache, go watch a 3-D movie and only try to watch things in the background (that ARE forced to be out-of-focus). That sh*t will melt your brain and give you eye-strain in 5 minutes flat.

Eye-tracking will solve this issue for gaming. If the headset is tracking your eyes, it knows what you're looking at and can focus/blur correctly. Until this tech is implemented, I'll be just fine playing games on my boring ol' 2D screen, thank you.
