Microsoft entertainment division turns profit, thanks Halo

Did MS break out how much of a drag Zune was on those results? (I assume not, just checking.)

PES 2008 features serious lag on PS3

I've seen this argument a few times and wonder why is it that developers are "lazy"? Isn't it more likely that it is just a combination of a learning curve and internal asset allocation? If you already know how to code for a PC and if, as suggested, an Xbox is really just a PC anyway, how many assets (people and man hours) do you tie up learning a new system versus spending those assets on (Xbox) games that can get out faster and earning the company revenue?

I want to see the PS3 succeed but I will compliment MS on this front. From a business perspective they were more developer friendly this time around by giving them a system that leveraged their already in place business assets. Developers are still businesses after all, I wonder if sometimes we forget this when claiming laziness on their part. From a gamer perspective that might, unfortunately, give us just "more of the same" in terms of games, but I can understand it from a 'bottom line' perspective.

Grand Theft Auto IV delayed from Oct. to fiscal Q2 '08

The only problem I have with the "too big for DVD (360)" idea is that I can't believe Take Two would be that massively stupid. Clearly someone (many people) at the company would be very aware of the storage limitations and would have mapped out an allocation of disk space quite some time ago. If space were the problem they should've discovered that long ago. So if in fact they 'ran out of space' then I don't blame the 360, I blame poor planning.

Making the grade: Sony's E3 presentation

I don't know about Joystiq bias. I think Sony and Microsoft did about equally well - neither one was particularly exciting. Nintendo? Uh...

I tend to think if anything I was hard on M$ at first since they were the first presenter in this new E3 format... a format which (for all three) leaves me bored.

And I still refuse to ever watch G4 again for that whole cut to commercial at the part you actually want to see debacle.

Still no Deus Ex Invisible War. My original Xbox didn't like the ending so I never got to finish. :(

Does Microsoft need Japan to succeed?

I was a little surprised by the analysis in that I thought the Entertainment/Devices division at Microsoft was also carrying recent large expenses from Zune development and ramp-up with obviously little revenue (during the period he is looking at) yet he doesn't make mention of this. Didn't Microsoft make specific comment in its quarterly release about being happy with a measurable profit/loss improvement in the Xbox space but that it was offset to some degree by other things (e.g. Zune)?

The guy could be right or wrong, its just an opinion I suppose. I just didn't think it was really all that well thought out.

NY Times: The PS3 "isn't that great"

>80: "lol, irony. The NY Times isn't that great."

Good lord, now the national newspaper of record is under attack because they call the PS3 "so so" in what is a fairly decent review? Like any organization, they err now and again but you'll be hard pressed to find a better daily newspaper anywhere in the world and certainly in the USA.

Then again, maybe you're right, I will wait for the suburban Chicago Daily Herald to come out with its review. And then if we're not happy with that, there is always the Traverse City Record-Eagle. And if THEY don't like the PS3, I'll pay Globe, Arizona's SilverBelt to write a good review.
