Shinobii toolkit disassembles your warranty ... and console

Dec 23rd 2009 10:35AM (Joystiq)
Um, Jim, I think that you mean Torx, and the "wacky ones with the peg in the middle" are security Torx (tamper resistant). If you click on the picture instead of just looking at it, you will find a description of the included pieces:

* Torx T2
* Torx T3
* Torx T6*
* Torx T8*
* Torx T10*
* Torx T15*
* Torx T20*
* Philips PH#0
* Philips PH#00
* Philips PH#000
* Philips PH#1
* Triwing #00
* Triwing #01
* Hex 0.05
* Slotted 7/64
* Linehead Nut Setters #6
* Linehead Nut Setters #8
* Opening Tool for Xbox 360
* Tweezer
* Anti-slip Rubberspikes Handle
* EasyGuide Plastic card (explaining what tools to use)

Tools marked with a * are tamper resistant.

Furthermore, yes, you can get all of these bits at a hardware store, but it's not so easy to find all of these on extended shafts. Also, the main reason that one should avoid magnetic tips is if you are working in close proximity to magnetic storage (not that there are any magnetic tips in this kit). The PS3 and the original Xbox are the only consoles where I see a HD proving to be an issue.

This kit is designed specifically to easily service all the consoles on the market, from what I can tell, and I'm happy to see it. I've got a drawer of mix and match bits and drivers now that can be totally replaced by this little guy.

Oct. NPD: Brutal Legend sold 216k; DJ Hero sold 123k

I didn't think that the gameplay was terrible, I just felt that they tried to do too much at once. Instead of being a really good hack 'n slash or a really good driving/exploring game, or a really good RTS, it was mediocre to above-average at all three.

Spyder Taco, your recovery from piracy wouldn't happen to coincide with obtaining a good, full-time job, would it?
