Indeed. While these puns have their this, the use of them here is depressing. This is, after all, a post which is Chiefly about a man being dumped after his engagement.
@Colin Do you... do you know how bottlenecks work? You basically just said, "This bottle is big enough that it makes up for the tiny bottleneck." You can't ever MAKE UP FOR a bottleneck.
Software will come. Of the Metacritic-listed DS games with a score over 80, eight of them came out within the first year of the console's existence, and only two or three of those were third-party. The reality is that developers need to learn how to develop for the system, how to take advantage of the 3D, and it's going to take time for that to happen.
Hold up, guys. Privatization of servers will lead to hacking? You're joking, right?
If the game uses VAC, having dedicated servers is the best way to PREVENT hackers from ruining the experience for everyone. MW2 on PC was dead within months because of the rampant hacking. VAC works via delayed bans -- it detects a new hack, then lets a hell of a lot of people use it, then bans them a while later. This basically creates a giant dragnet to catch hackers. For a few weeks, you have no idea that you've been detected.
In the meantime, server admins have to be around, or hacks will run rampant.
I agree. I was also working part-time (20-25 hours a week) and going to college full-time (while pulling down a decent GPA -- well above 3). I was playing CS competitively at the time. I quit when I realized how much time I was spending playing CS -- quit the game entirely for like three months. Didn't even tell my team, since I quit between seasons. They thought I'd been VACed, since I wasn't even pubbing.
This is not even close to true. While it is true that a lot of the 1.6 competitive community disliked Source due to mechanics differences, most players moved over.
In Source, you can't "control" recoil. There is no recoil pattern -- just random recoil and spread.
And the control mechanics are not about recoil. There's a huge difference in the feel of the guns. Like I said, modern shooters feel heavy, while classic shooters feel light.
As an ex-addict of Counter-Strike (I used to play Source about 40 hours a week), I will only be happy if the control mechanics are similar to 1.6 and Source. The modern FPS always feels very heavy to me, whereas the Counter-Strike games are light. I don't know if that will make sense to people who haven't played shooters quite extensively, but it's a major concern for a number of us.

Counter-Strike: Global Offensive coming to XBLA, PSN and Steam early 2012 [update]
Aug 12th 2011 1:32PM (Joystiq)Yeah, my maps folder has in excess of 100 maps, and that's just in the last year and a half, or so.

Aug 12th 2011 12:51PM (Joystiq)Really?
Counter-Strike 1.6 has more playtime on Steam than MW2 and Codblops combined. Same for CS:S.
Of course, you could just be hating on shooters in general, because that's the fun thing to do right now.
