WoW character sells for nearly $10,000

Sep 17th 2007 5:41PM (Joystiq)
Uh.. how much per hour does that come out to? A friend sold his character from DAOC for 100 bucks once.. And he'd spent about 5000 hours on it. Which came to 2 cents an hour.

Survey: British (male) gamers not peeved by in-game ads

Sep 4th 2007 1:52PM (Joystiq)
what the hell. do gamers ever think long term? i'm firmly against it, for the simple reason that the whole concept of ads is a slippery slope. next thing you know, you're going to have mario wearing sketchers. everyone is still paying the priced fixed amounts, and for those who say they are "contextually appropriate," think of what you're saying. are ads in any context ok? shouldn't you be able to decide what you buy without these ads everywhere you turn. games are just that- games. but apparently they are also marketing tools to kids who are taught that the way to happiness is a steady stream of products. jesus.

Looks like Extra Innings for the SNES... which isn't a bad thing. Maybe Nintendo will have a baseball week sometime in October (similar to the Father's Day lineup)...

Rumorang: PSP2 rocking 60GB hard drive

one question... if youre a direct competitor of a video game company, and they really "lose" 100-200 dollars per unit, why wouldnt you just buy up units of your competitors' consoles? you're taking money out of their pocket. sure, you have to resell them, but i doubt it's very hard to resell consoles nowadays anyway, esp if you knock a little off the price. does anybody know what prevents a company from doing this?

PS2 to outsell newer consoles through next year?

Dec 28th 2006 5:14PM (Joystiq)
the fact that the ps2 has such a rich library keeps me from purchasing a wii or a ps3... there are so many great games that i haven't even gotten a chance to play in the 4 years or so that i've had the system. for a couple years there, maybe 2003-2004, i don't know how anybody could have kept up with the awesome flurry of ps2 titles. seriously, pick up shadow of the colossus to see what i mean.

Study: Ads in sports games don't work

do yourselves a favor and read "no logo" by naomi klein. it'll change the way you look at this branding of your fun. wasn't a lot of the fun of old games because they were a departure from reality? just imagine asteroids with a big logo for an airline on the ship. yuck.

Epilepsy and games: A closer look

Dec 19th 2006 5:55PM (Joystiq)
i have epilepsy too, but i don't have the photosensitive kind. i've heard if you have it, it's not just video games/tv that will induce it- that even looking at the sunlight going down a country road can cause an episode if you have that type. my kind, if you're curious, is probably complex partial status epilepticus. this results in the occasional "staring, unresponsiveness, automatisms, atypical anxiety, rising abdominal symptoms, déjà vu, or more profound stupor" that don't stop until i call chug a little bottle. i've rattled off baseball statistics, and done homework (poorly, though) while having them. sorry for the rambling, i just thought i'd say that most seizures aren't the flopping around due to light kind we all hear about.

Trade PS3 for 8,389 Gorditas

Nov 21st 2006 11:56AM (Joystiq)
yeah, go ahead, seeing as they probably make money off you after the tax write offs in both directions. add in the benefit from the publicity right here (i'm sure at least 50 people just got a craving for some of their dog meat) and they're not being generous, they're being smart.
