Konami wants your music for the next DDR

Jan 9th 2007 4:39PM (Joystiq)
I'm gonna have to disagree with the original poster about the lack of originality in Bemani music. Most of their good tracks are created by various in-house artists such as Naoki, TaQ, DJ Taka, and Akira Yamaoka just to name a few. The contest is merely a way to give indie musicians some much needed exposure.

Konami wants your music for the next DDR

#2: in no way DDR is dead, as a matter of fact, it's currently Konami's bread and butter, alongside their
other massive franchises like Winning Eleven and Castlevania.

Anyways, it's really good that they're making the series more eclectic, granted it was already there when they had a Ray Charles track in Ultramix 3, giving everyone a taste of diverse music genres.

Report: Mobile gaming to grow 27% annually

Jan 5th 2007 3:20PM (Joystiq)
For those that are decrying the unrealisticness of the cell phone gaming market, allow me to shed some differing light on this matter. Seeing as I work in this industry, the only way to make it big is to think outside of the norm, basically, you have to appeal to a much broader audience, one that is not that hardcore into gaming as most if not, all of us are. Basically, simple casual games like your Tetris's and Bejeweled's are huge winners since the folks who buy them don't have the time or money to invest in a gaming platform. Also, personalization apps, ones that allow you to create content such as ringers and wallpaper for your own phone, are very big as well. Basically, it all boils down to a numbers game. It is estimated that there are over three-quarters of a billion cell phone customers worldwide, and when selling a simple yet entertaining game, the possibility of raking in cash is unlimited, since they are relatively cheap to produce. So the bottom line, just give it a chance. Once the technology gets better (and believe me, it will), it probably will never give regular platform gaming a run for its money, but will thrive heavily on simplicity.

Metareview - Mobile Suit Gundam: Crossfire

Nov 21st 2006 2:52PM (Joystiq)
Honestly, this game looks like it was rushed, which in turn gave it the score that it deserved. That and it had no online multiplayer support. As a Gundam fan, all I can say is that Mobile Ops (another Gundam game coming out next year) for the 360 is where it's truly at, since it's Battlefield 2-like gameplay will redeem Bandai/Namco of this black eye. Also, it seems that I hate to admit it, but anything that any game sold in this country with "Gundam" in its title is destined for failure (except of course Side Story 0079 for the Dreamcast, that one was hawt). Mobile Ops, it's all up to you now!
