I can't wait for Final Fantasy because I KNOW it's going to be good not only because I've played it, but because of the amount of time and effort that went into making this AAA title. Square wouldn't drop the ball that much to warrant a 5/10 on anything, lol, I honestly can't even read the review with a straight face because it's so off base it's comical. What's even funnier is that people are believing everything this guy has to say as if it's written in stone.
Square's AAA titles like this always excel due to their tremendous amounts of polish. The visuals are truly spectacular (the demos HD cutscenes literally looked better than Advent Children blu ray), the sound is always a top priority (from the review they'd make you think the soundtrack was arcadey like something you'd find in Devil May Cry, HA), the battle system is completely sped up and seamless due to its similarity to XENOGEARS back on the PS1, a comparison that none of these "expert" reviewers have made which is a joke to me since that was one of the best RPGs of all time...oh, and the story which the writer says is so convoluted and non-sensible, that to is subject to whomever is playing the game! It was clear that the guy didn't like what he was playing, so why would he put any effort into understanding the story if all he was trying to do was finish the game so he could review it? Also, why are these people not mentioning that the entire SECOND HALF of FF13 is NON-LINEAR? The title opens up drastically after the first part LIKE IT ALWAYS DOES in most FF games, for example, when you get your ship or whatever means of transportation you need to get around the map. It really does make me laugh that those comments are brushed aside as if they don't matter at all.
Honestly, if Heavy Rain got a 9 with it's ridiculously shoddy controls and with the dialog options floating swiftly around your head making it hard to read as well as some of the joystiq movements being written so small you can barely make them out, Final Fantasy which has none of those problems except for the apparent "linear-ness" in the FIRST HALF of the game deserves to be right there with other great titles of this generation. God of War, COD, even MASS EFFECT are LINEAR in some way or another, so stating that as the biggest flaw of the game is honestly inaccurate. The reviewer obviously wrote 5/10 knowing full well that he'd get this type of response from seasoned gamers that know what they are talking about; I wouldn't be surprised if he wanted to put a 7 but decided on a 5 just to really try and piss people off.
LOL a 5/10 is comical...glad to see I don't have to take this review seriously because apparently the reviewer didn't at all. The amount of effort put into this title by the developers over the years warrants more than a 5/10 by itself.
Anyone who bases their purchase on this review doesn't deserve to have an opinion one way or another because its quite clear they can't make capable decisions on their own. I've had the demo since Advent Children released and I can say without a doubt that a 5/10 is more of a joke than anything I've heard in a long time. I'm a huge Mass Effect fan and beat 2 when it came out, and if that game got a 9+, than FF def. deserves a higher score seeing as ME2 was just as linear as anything else out there (find your team, beat a new teamates mission, repeat, game over, you can't even go back ANYWHERE in the world to fight ANYTHING if you've beaten all the sidequests...lame). I'm sorry, but everyones better judgment should tell them that a game of Final Fantasy's caliber deserves an actual playthrough rather than a disregard just because someone didn't like it.
By the way, I've had the FF13 demo since Advent Children Complete released overseas. It kind of makes me laugh that these "reviewers" haven't made the most obvious comparison in battle system to another of Square's greatest RPGs of all time..XENOGEARS. 13's battle system is just like Xenogears in that you get a certain amount of AP points each turn to perform a variety of attacks within that capacity. I loved Xenogears battle system thus I already love this one.
He says 15 hours of tedious gameplay...to me that sounds like the same kind of gripe that reviewers made, for example, with GTA IV and it's average graphics (heavy draw in, clipping, etc.).....honestly, it takes nothing away from the gameplay, i.e. its bitching for the sake of bitching. Those who enjoy JRPGs will undoubtedly love the game and find nothing tedious about it. Those who want to nitpick will do just that. It's a shame that people can't simply enjoy the incredible work these developers put out after spending thousands upon thousands of hours developing a true next gen title. It's pretty embarassing if you ask me.
Personally, I don't think there's any question that its all in real time. It's not crisp enough to be CG and honestly, to the eye test, its a no brainer....This team just does incredible things with the hardware they are given but they also take it a step further by providing unique and visually pleasing worlds as well.
Not to be a drag, but I remember reading about this months ago back when the NXE first came out...This is old news, right? I KNOW I read about this before!
i don't think there's even a question that this is all in game graphics. not only does it look realtime (notice the way the cars and background move, etc.), it also seems FUN. i can't wait for this
