Phil Schiller on Windows 7: 'No matter how you look at it, it's still Windows'
Oct 15th 2009 5:47PM (Engadget)Mac: And I'm a Mac.
Mac: Hey PC whatcha doin?
PC: Just checking out a beta build of my latest OS. It's really exciting, I get to go through all my stuff and archive anything I don't need to keep immediately on hand. Ah, there we are.
Mac: Sounds like a lot of work. I just finished my upgrade to Snow Leopard.
PC: You're done already?!
Mac: Yeah, you want to check it out? Here log on in the guest account so you can mess with whatever you want.
PC: Hey, this does look kinda neat. Where's all your stuff though?
Mac: WTF! Gimme that... NOOOOOOoooooooooo!
PC: You mad an archive though right?
Mac: Let me get my time capsule. NOOOOOOOooooooo!
PC: Oh, look! My upgrade is done! It even recognized all the stuff attached to my network and it is running on my ten year old machine that I use for storage space! You need a copy of anything?

Sep 11th 2009 12:59PM (Engadget)Please explain how it is MS fault that a majority of the world uses their OS inspite of readily available, free, stable alternatives. Disclaimer: I am not necessarily a proponent of MS. They do a lot of things that piss me off (pricing, product activation, blah blah blah). I just like to debate and hear both sides of an issue. So please reply. Anyone.

Sep 11th 2009 12:41PM (Engadget)The hardware manucfacturer status is what Apple has been standing behind to prevent companies like Psystar (sp?) from creating a Mac clone. See Apple argues that OSX is designed to run Apples hardware, since hardware is useless without software to run it. And if another company gets OSX running on non-Apple hardware they had to alter the OSX code. In Apples argument the software is created to support thier Mac hardware, even though the software can be purchased as a stand alone product. If one was to purchase said stand alone product, it would be illegal (through violation of the EULA and enforcable by law) to attempt to install it on any hardware other than Apples. This is a completely falacious argument since Apple no longer uses propietary hardware.

Sep 11th 2009 12:23PM (Engadget)taken from Apple support discussion forums: "If an iPhone that is under warranty is opened by you or by a 3rd party, doing so will void the warranty"
No phone that I have ever owned has required the use of a tool to change the battery. On top of that, changing the battery did not void the warranty. Screwdivers are not illegal, and yes I *could* change the battery. But why would I void the warranty of an expensive piece of equipment before it expired on it's own? There is plenty of time for jailbreaking, hacking, and tweaking (all of which violates the EULA in case you forgot. Not that I agree with it, but that's the way it is.) after the warranty expires and you can't get it replaced for free.
