Tried competitive MP on GTA 4 and Red Dead once for each game. It wasn't fun. But you know what was fun? Screwing around with my friends in helicopters through Manhattan (or whatever it's called in GTA land).
@(Unverified) I'll admit firstly, that I share Phil's opinion and that may invalidate anything I say for some people.
I find it refreshing when people in spotlight speak freely without a big PR gag filtering out their true feelings. You see it more often from Indie designers because they simply don't have a PR team.
I remember Jonathan Blow went off on a Giant Bombcast last year about Xbox Live Arcade's policies and regulations. He ranted about how restrictive and frustrating they were. It was fascinating because you would never hear that kind of talk from Epic or EA.
I'm not saying it's wrong to disagree with Phil but if the games community continues to crucify those that speak honestly, then we're going to see less of it. And that's what truly sucks.
The way Phil Fish is being treated is like a microcosm of the games press industry in general. Gamers crave opinions (previews, review scores, game of the year awards etc) but when they don`t like what they hear, they bitch and moan and start handing out petitions.
It sucks to see a guy get ravaged by the community for voicing his opinion. An opinion that respected Japanese game designers share.
