Sony to never stop getting sued for rumble technology

May 19th 2009 3:19PM (Joystiq)
Please! you could say that when they got sued by Immersion, but getting sued by another party FOR THE SAME THING?!?!?! Only one party can own the patent, folks...

Linksys discontinues Media Center Extenders, hardly anyone notices

May 18th 2009 11:52AM (Engadget)
@Richard:

Once I get back home tomorrow, I will, if you still want. I can tell you the majority was bought from www.ebuyer.com, and the GFX was a steal at £10 / £15 for a low GF8 series, I think an 8400 GS, whch had the DVI out.

Erm, just logged onto ebuyer, and found my specs, apparently I didn't buy that GFX card for that machine!:
AMD Athlon 64 X2 Socket AM2 4200+
MSI K9AGM3-FIH socket AM2 AMD 690G PCI-E HDMI
Corsair 2GB (2x1GB) DDR2 675MHz
Extra Value Black Desktop Micro ATX Case - With 450W PSU

And looks like I mis-remembered the price; it was £143.85 with VAT.

However, I'm guessing the price will be lower again now. Hope that helps

Linksys discontinues Media Center Extenders, hardly anyone notices

Meh, I just built a nice, cheap media-centric PC for £120 (excluding the monitor), and linked it up to the DVI input of the living room telly. I added a cheapo 17" mon for web and file browsing, and any media would automatically get slung across to the telly (WMP and VLc automatically opening on the 2nd display). This method works because i have a NAS too, though.

Although I kind of feel the PS3 would've done the same thing, but this thing was built prior to me owning the PS3

Joystiq review: Plants vs. Zombies

Yeah, played for just a day? Steam says I'm playing for 24hours...

Anyone who can get over 30 flag in survival endless can say something stupid that it's "too easy". Hell, even the achievement to get 15 in vase breaker is hard enough for me!

You're right about one thign though. It's a simple strategy for non- strategists, that's the Popcap way, to make something accessible to everyone, but enough of a challenge in the endgame.

Doesn't mean strategists like me won't love, nay addict to it though.

SNK fighting joysticks tempt PlayStation 3 importers

I said face buttons, i.e. the big face buttons; you wouldn't really want to use the small buttons on a joystick in a beat 'em up as main buttons.

I'd imagine you'd program those for 3x punch, etc, if you wanted, whereas people who don't like using that kind of thing (poeple who like it as close to the arcade as poss, perhaps?), would stick to the big buttons.

So, why the discrepency between the number of BIG face buttons?

Why does one pad have 6 face buttons, and the other 4 face buttons? Last time I played KOF ('99 version, that came out in.... 2000), there was just 4 buttons anyhow?

Debunk: Sony has not discontinued Rolly in America

May 14th 2009 3:54PM (Engadget)
I lol'd! I thinking Sony just denies everything...

Press: Can you confirm you sell PS3s in North America?

Sony: There is no truth in these baseless claims. We have no plans to release the PS3 in the North American region

Intel fined record $1.45 billion in AMD antitrust case

May 13th 2009 7:00AM (Engadget)
EU trying to *stifle* competition???? Are you turned around onto yor head or something?

Intel was PAYING retailers to ONLY Stock Intel chips, AMd found out and told the EU. Now, thanks to that, you can have a choice of chips from retailers such as Dell (it's the only 'tailer I remember being solely Intel).

"Even if Intel & retailers were colluding..."

IF?! The evidence was given in the trail, and was conclusive. There's no IF about it.

"resulting action should have been a greater push in marketing, distribution and effectiveness of AMDs technology"

AMD is nowhere as big as Intel, and can't afford to buy out retailers, barely anything on advertising (relatively speaking, of course), At the P4 era, AMD Athlons were the better and faster chip, but no one would sell them.

Personally, as a Brit, I'm glad because it *should* mean that Intel prices will go down (because they now have to compete, should negate the huge bag of hurt fine), and I can buy the i7 for a cheaper price.

Lastly, you sir, are an idiot.

I've always wondered: Who gets the money from the fine? And what can/do they do with it?
