The PS3's worst enemy

Oct 2nd 2006 2:38PM (Joystiq)
@ 33
Pirate, how can you have a blog site called SoftwarePirate, even calling yourself "Pirate" and then "claim" not to condone pirating software (Even though you say you don't condone it, that's not exactly the same as saying you actually don't pirate software. You say that it's just a play on words as to the reason why you chose the name "SoftwarePirate" so my question to you is why did you pick that name in the first place? Was it just to sound cool? "Hey Software Pirate here, or just 'Pirate' for short but heh, no I believe in pirating software. I just like to sound or look like one. That's teh cool!!11".

Come one man, stop posing and get real. Ether you pirate apps or you don't. Regardless of what you believe. If you don't then you might as well just call you're self "Vanilla the Ice pirate" cause that's the kinda game your playing.

Oh and if you're wondering I'm a true blue console chipping, appOS burnin', ROM downloadn' MP3 file grabbing pirate!
ArrG!

Final Fantasy III and black DS Lite editions head to Japan

Jul 12th 2006 12:55PM (Joystiq)
@ Aran

I was pointing out the fact that there is absolutely no reason why Nintendo could not of released the Black, White, Navy, or what ever colour DS Lite in N. America the same time or shortly after it was released elsewhere.
They were able to release the white ver. why not the black also? Why is it that other regions have to get only one particular colour while others get multiple?
AND as a loyal customer why the heck should I have to in the end pay more for the same product which only difference is the colour it comes in by importing it when it could of as easily been sold here?
Why?
Also, I'm a bit older then you so I still remember the days when we had to wait almost a year from the launch of the super famicom in Japan to the launch of the SNES in N. America and then when it finally came here why it looked so dull (Not that it really mattered in the end) compared to the colourful SFC.
Lets not get into the fact that the best and most interesting games were released in Japan only (Yes, yes some of those Nintendo didn't have much control over and I've already heard the "cultural differences" excuse but that could of been worked on if they really wanted to).
Sure, things are a lot better now then they were back then but what's the reason for this now?
Have they even announced when they will be shipping the black DS Lite to N. America if ever? It's not like they said it was coming.
It just seems that it's being assumed that it will eventually.

Overheard in New York...

Thanks for the post Joystiq.

Guild Wars: Character slots for cash coming soon

Apr 21st 2006 4:07PM (Joystiq)
Guild Wars......
You know, I was for some reason holding off on this game. I'm not quite sure why. I guess I was waiting for the price to come down a bit just in case I didn't like it. I found it for $39.99CAD so I decided to get it.
Let me tell you first hand. I have had this game for little over a week now and IT'S KILLING ME!!!!
It has kept me up every single night until 5 or 6 AM. My wife has threatened to burn the game and my PC. I didn't think it was humanly possible to survive on 3 hours a night sleep for a few days let alone a week.
I got to work thinking about this game, at lunch I'm thinking about this game, I'm driving home thinking about this game, even at the movie theater (Took the Kids to see "The Wild")I'm thinking about this game. If you like Diablo, Oblivion, or any type of typical RPG, you will love this game. WARNING!! It may just make you a "bit" obsessive.
I will be getting Factions as soon as it's out.

Funeral crashing in WoW

Apr 18th 2006 11:05AM (Joystiq)
(Responding to 69)
More specifically I was referring to the Godfather III, the scene:

"The widow Andolini, dressed in black, walks alongside young nine year old Vito Corleone, n?ndolini at the funeral of her husband, Antonio Andolini. Two gunshots are heard, and everyone scatters for cover. Paolo's body is discovered slain on the ground - the fourteen year-old son has been murdered by orders of the local Mafia Chieftain Don Francesco Ciccio..."

What gets me though is your seemingly honorable portrayal of the Sicilian Mafioso in having strict rules regarding attacking funerals as a last resort.
What would you think about killing a defenseless 14 yr old at a funeral then? Strict rules my ass.
I'm sure you can find RL examples of Mafia hits during funerals if you looked for it.

GAMES, (Post 74)
Ya hit the nail right on the head! Great post.
It was their choice to bring in RL social conventions into a game that has very loose or even no moral or social guidelines that you have to follow. By having the funeral the way they did and where they did just shows how they were trying to impose on others what they thought was acceptable and not acceptable in game.
Remember, part of what makes MMOG's fun and enjoyable is the freedom of choice you have, especially in doing things that you can't get away with in in RL. They tried to take some of that freedom away.
SN just showed them the errors of their ways.

Funeral crashing in WoW

Apr 17th 2006 12:14PM (Joystiq)
First of all, there is nothing wrong with them as a group in game paying a bit of respect for someone that I'm sure they all would consider a friend. So what, they may have never meet him face to face. They knew him non the less and he was a member of their circle of friends. Those having a problem with that let me know of a more practical and convent way where they all could meet up to pay their respects.
Also, explain to me how paying their respects in this way is some how disrespectful to the person that passed? All that would matter would be how that person would of viewed remembering him in this way. If he was in to WoW so much as to join a guild then it would be safe to say that he would of appreciated the act at the least.
Second, to the guild that got attacked, it was a very stupid move to post where the funeral was being held in the first place and on a PvP server at that. DUMB. Who are they to think that other rival groups would respect what they were doing. They were just asking to get attacked when they leased expected. Sure it was low but look at in the context of the game.
You and you mates are there, hanging out, reminiscing about the good ol?imes and all of a sudden a troll (Or what ever doesn't like you) comes by and sees your camp. Whats it gonna do? Stop and say, "Oh sorry, I didn't realize you were having a funeral service here. I'll come back later to attack you when your better prepared." No, it's gonna attack. If they want to do things like have funeral services in a game then they have to expect things like this can happen.
They should of been smarter about how they went about it.
To the attacking guild, It was a sneaky and low but a CLASSIC strat! Reminds me of the Godfather movies. Attacking your enemies at a funeral when they least expect it. Ha! They get "props" from me for that.
Again, remember it is a game. I'm sure they wouldn't do that in RL. At least I hope they wouldn't.
Yeah it was wrong that they posted the person's personal info publicly but I'm I the only one that thinks that maybe, just maybe after some period of time or some penalty they should get their CD-Keys unbanned? I don't know how effective just banning their CD-keys would be when they can just repurchase the game and recreate their accounts.
Hmm, maybe that's was BLIZZARD wants after all.

By the way, I DON'T play WoW.

Square Enix announces FPS for 360, codenamed 'Project Sylph'

Apr 6th 2006 3:47PM (Joystiq)
This is crap. As stated the whole reason Microsoft wooed and courted SquareEnix was to make Japanese quality and styled RPG's for the 360. Now they are sticking it to Microsoft by just putting out a lame FPS for them. WTH, is SquareEnix known for their great FPS games??? Have they even ever put one out before? This just goes to show that these Japanese companies are all in cahoots together. You think SquareEnix would ever create a great exclusive RPG for a FOREIGN (American) console. HAH! yeah right. Microsoft got the big shaft on this one.
They should of got it in writing.
(Yeah I know there supposed to be coming out with some type of RPG for the 360 some time but I'll believe it when I see it. Then we'll all see just how good it is.)

Metareview - Tetris DS

Mar 22nd 2006 12:13PM (Joystiq)
Got it yesterday along with MPH and it was well worth it. The new game play modes are great causing you to look and work at it a bit differently but not so much that it confuses the game play. There is nothing much to complain about with this game. At least it’s priced pretty well. ($39.99CAD) For something this good and that you are going to play a lot. It's worth it IMO. Gotta try Wi-Fi later on tonight.
At least it doesn’t cramp up my hands like MPH.

Metareview - Metroid Prime: Hunters (DS)

Mar 22nd 2006 11:44AM (Joystiq)
Hey I just picked up mine yesterday during lunch (Even came back a bit late because of that). I must say MPH + DS Tetris is the best game purchase combo ever.
MPH is very good and a must if you have a DS. Only problems is it's a bit long to get to the portals that take you back to save your game back at the ship. Also using the stylus gives the worst hand cramps.
The cut scenes are quite good. Haven't tried Wi-Fi but will tonight.
