You people are complaining about a company acquiring software and cutting the price? For 3-20 bucks?
Try complaining to people who bought the predecessor to DVD Studio Pro for $4,000, people who bought Shake for $10,000, or companies who bought WebObjects licenses for $50,000.
At some point it will be cheaper for Apple to manufacture an 8GB 3GS, increasing volume orders for 3GS components, rather than maintaining a separate set of chip vendor contracts for older components.
When Apple released the candy-colored iMacs, suddenly there was a great deal of surplus of those raw materials in the plastics industry. It became really inexpensive for PC case manufacturers to use clear/colored plastics in everything, so hubs, routers, minitower cases etc. became candy colored too. You could attribute that trend of ugly iMac knockoff colors to Apple, since they enabled that trend by making a manufacturing process cheaper for everybody, for better or worse.
The bigger thing for me is that Adobe also quietly slipped out Adobe Director 11, as an Intel-Mac-Compatible app. I figured that app had fallen to the same fate as Macromedia FreeHand.
It takes a lot more product design and electrical engineering cost to incorporate a removable battery into a product, especially one as small as this. It's a great shortcut to have an ugly power cell with tape and wires, if the user never sees it. It's a real PITA for the repair centers and for the support folks though.
>Am I the only person who still whispers, "Welcome to Macintosh" upon hearing the Mac start-up sound, even though that message stopped appearing on our screens years ago?
No, I still whisper (1996-era), "BONG! Thanks for calling Apple. Your call is important to us. We answer calls in the order in which they were received. So stay on the line, and we'll take your call as quickly as possible (dreadful guitar-rock hold music)
Oh man, we just got Cooking Mama for the DS lite. It's really fun, especially if you like Japanese food. The game is localized into English, but of course all the recipes are for miso soup, tempura shrimp, curry, etc. I can't wait to see this with the Wii controller.
Numbers are practically useless at this point, unless you're at Barrett-Jackson looking for a priceless display piece. Restamped engines are common in the Corvette world. You can buy repro trim and VIN tags on eBay now, as well as repro dated parts.
As for cloning: In a world where a top example of a freaking 1970 Challenger costs half a million dollars, how unscrupulous is it for a person to want to build a clone, as long as they don't try to pass it off as genuine? 99% of Hemi Cudas are advertised as clones, at prices over 75K-100K.
Entry-level prices for Challenger, Cuda, or Corvette convertibles are in the mid 40K's. At some point, almost every base-model muscle car will probably become a clone of a more desirable model.
$20K base model + $30K resto + $15K Hemi = $115K "tribute" car
It would be nice to see more of the 289 Cobra kits. Nobody seems to go for them, but they don't have all those signature "427 Cobra kit car" fender flares. Probably just as fun to drive.
