Gamestop Q2 financials anchored by strong used game and digital sales

Aug 19th 2011 11:05AM (Joystiq)
Gamestop needs to burn. The world would have been much better without them. What did we do before Gamestop? We bought games at places like Best Buy, Walmart, and Target. Now days Amazon is almost always the best place to buy new games. If you're low on money, Gamestop was never the answer. You can easily get anyone to buy your game for what Gamestop offers you. Put it up on Craigslist or Ebay. It'll go fast.

Gamestop has done nothing but damage the used game market by inflating used game prices and putting legitimate used game stores out of business. They've also made it easy for devs to demonize the used video game market because of how much money they make off the stupid people who actually accept their atrocious trade-in values and buy their used games that have been discounted only within about 5 bucks of a new copy. I can't believe for the life of me that people are buying digital content from them now. IT'S DIGITAL! Stay at home, save some gas, use your credit card and download it.

Stop making this company rich. Better yet, put them out of business. Just so we're clear. I could care less about anyone who works at a Gamestop from top to bottom. If you work at Gamestop, you're part of the problem along with all the stupid people who patronize your store.

GoldenEye 007: Reloaded fires off MI-6 mode trailer

Aug 18th 2011 10:37AM (Joystiq)
I have this game for Wii. Anyone who says it's Call of Bond obviously has never played it. It simply borrows some of the greatest things from Call of Duty like excellent controls and ADS. That's it. No, this ain't Goldeneye 64. It's much better than that. I have the original on my actual Nintendo 64. It does not compare. The N64 version is heavily dated by today's FPS standards.

Having said that, Goldeneye Reloaded doesn't look so hot. Obviously I don't care that much about graphics since I own the Wii version, but the graphics are good for the Wii. Reloaded looks like the exact same game with some added detail and runs at 60 frames instead of 30. The graphics look substandard to a PS3 or 360. They should have just kept it on the Wii because nobody is to appreciate this game on the HD consoles. It's a shame you all won't get to play a great game.

@Dickhole Pasta

Yeah. If only the Wii were able to read Gamecube discs, there would be no need for a reprint. Oh wait....

Amazon also bundling Resistance 3 pre-order with PlayStation 3DTV

Aug 10th 2011 2:48AM (Joystiq)
Ok. Nobody notices the enormous dick move that Sony has pulled? They said at E3 that this rip off package would include Resistance 3. Then they go back on it and instead put in a not so great selling title. Then Gay Stop and Amazon come behind Sony and honor their broken promise by packaging the game that was supposed to come with this stupid package. Sony can do anything and people still buy their lies and hype. Enjoy all that.

@JimmyBoy Hate to break it to you but some Vizio sets have Samsung guts. Plus anyone can see with their eyes how poor Sony TVs look in comparison to other TVs. Sony has some of the worst looking TVs on the market. I can always spot them without looking at the logos. Sony used to have the CRT market cornered as they did make the best looking tube TVs. I'll happily buy a Vizio over a Sony.

Also it is very debatable when it comes to passive vs. active 3D glasses. Depending on your seating position and TV size will determine your experience. Plus there's the fact that active glasses cause annoying flicker because they do shutter unlike passive. Many people say that passive don't put nearly as much strain on your eyes like active does. Active glasses also have a tendency to ruin black levels by darkening the picture. Passive glasses that don't cause any loss of resolution are on the horizon. Active will go the way of Laserdisc. It was a bad idea right out the gate.

Seriously people this is not a good deal. It wasn't a good deal even when Sony announced it at E3. Here's why.

-Sony TVs suck. There is no Sony TV that can compare to a Samsung, Panasonic, or Vizio for that matter in picture quality.

-The TV they're offering is ONLY 24 INCHES! Do any of you realize how small a widescreen 24 inch TV is? Tiny.

-This TV also features the expensive and unnecessary LCD shuttering glasses which will be a thing of the past very soon. My parents just bought a Vizio with the passive Real3D glasses that cost 20 bucks a pair. This TV only cost them 700 bucks. Oh it's a 42 inch by the way.

Don't be stupid. Sony has been trying to shove their version of 3D down the throats of consumers for a while now, and there is a reason that nobody is swallowing it. Too expensive. 500 for a 60 dollar game, a HDMI cable that costs Sony nothing, and a tiny 3DTV with ONE PAIR of LCD shuttering glasses. It's not a good deal now, and give it a few months and it will be even worse of a deal.

1.5 million daily Netflix users are on Wii

Jul 15th 2011 2:59AM (Joystiq)
@Rouma Yeah if you ignore the fact that Netflix commercials don't even mention the Wii specifically and show the other two consoles right next to the Wii, then yes this number is all because of the adds on TV. Next time watch the commercials instead of fast forwarding through them on your DVR and assuming that your poorly drawn out conclusions are correct.

Too many of you actually expected Nintendo to get their act together with their Virtual Console service. They let the VC on Wii rot. What made you all think that they were all the sudden start doing something different with the 3DS?

Let this be a lesson to all of you who throw all of your old stuff away.
