Arrgh! I need this on Android! I used to have an iPod touch, then my wallet took an arrow to the knee.

12 Days of Joyswag: PlayStation 3D Display, 3D PlayStation 3 games, Air Flow controller

My gaming room smells like whatever Earthworm Jim was yelling about, which most likely has to do with what the Rock... was cooking.

Deja Review: GoldenEye 007: Reloaded

Nov 9th 2011 10:02AM (Joystiq)
You know, everyone talks about how great Goldeneye was, which it was extremely fun. Then every one of these people seem to overlook the fact that the same creative team, minus the Rare name, created a series called Timesplitters that plays pretty much just like Goldenye, but more refined.

Then this same team make a game called Haze. Haze did not do well critically, but has anyone played it? I know it's old, but I just wanted to know. Instead of chasing after names, which the media industry uses to cash in with these awful remakes and reboots that no one asked for, let's look at the core values of the franchises we love.

I'd like a new Gunstar Heroes, but if someone releases something that captures the essence of what made that game super fun, then I don't care about the name. A rose by any other name...

Breaking down Capcom's Dragon's Dogma press demo

Oct 31st 2011 12:54PM (Joystiq)
Straight up, even though I haven't been following this game ultra closely, the games that seem to be the least hype are the ones that try to mimic games that sell like hotcakes in western territories. If they just kept the Capcom flair that got them so famous in the first place instead of westernizing the games into a "me too" level of mediocrity they'd be alright.

DmC looks like it's doing it too. There was the game with the guy with the jet pack they released a while ago. Even Bionic Commando, which I've heard mixed things about all have either done it or are going down that path. It's not their style that's losing the money, it's something they're going to have to figure out with the core of their business model. I just hope they figure it out before they fade into obscurity.

The Man of Steel returns to video games ... on iOS

Oct 17th 2011 1:28PM (Joystiq)
@solowing I remember after beating Darkside I had to carry him to the police outside through a narrow hallway, then he got stuck in the ceiling and having to start the game over. Then I remember flying through rings to get to the next part before time runs out, but flying being so difficult that by the time you got to the third stage or whatever that it was impossible to do. Then I remember taking my rental back to blockbuster and getting one of the old THQ wrestling games by AKI.

So yeah. It probably is popular to make fun of it, but it was also not the best experience I've had playing a video game either.

Sword and Sworcery EP down to $1 today, pay what you want for the soundtrack

Jun 21st 2011 8:05PM (Joystiq)
Downloading this right now. I don't really play these types of games, but it's $.99, so I'll give it a shot. Kinda makes me want to impulse buy SF4 now lol.

Treasure put a lot of work into (optional) fake transparency for Radiant Silvergun

Jun 16th 2011 12:19PM (Joystiq)
I just don't understand why is it fanboy-ism if I want these games on the PSN. I don't want to buy a console, which the majority of games that come out for it either don't appeal to me or are multi-platform, for some extremely awesome exclusives. If they struck a deal with Microsoft then they should just be real about it. I know they're traditionally a smaller developer and pool resources with publishers. I'm kinda salty about these games right now, but I'm not buying an X360 to play these games. If I'm given one, then that's cool.

Sin and Punishment 2 was understandable, because as far as I know it has ties to Nintendo. I mean, Saki is an assist trophy in Brawl, so that's cool. It just doesn't make since to me that these re-releases aren't multi-platform (hyphen mania!)

Then again, maybe Sony did something back in the day to cause them to not like them. It's not like these games were released on the PS1. I know I don't deserve any further justification, but I just would like a better answer than what we're getting about the 360 being a hardcore, spiritual successor to the Dreamcast. I want the truth, Treasure!

Devil May Cry screens and trailer ('cause humans do care)

Jun 9th 2011 9:13AM (Joystiq)
Ok. I've watched the trailer (twice) and here's my take. It's just not the same game anymore. I actually believe this will PROBABLY be the most commercially successful DMC game ever released, which is ultimately what they want. However, just like Ninja Gaiden 3, it doesn't seem like they have the game play that I expect and look for from a DMC game. So, will I play it? Maybe. But as it is right now, it's just not going to be the same.

Thankfully, I think they're doing a DMC HD collection, I think. So that should be cool, for now at least. Come to think of it, it's like they're shooting for two different audiences by releasing both of these packages. Go figure.

Dragon's Crown announced as VanillaWare's next project, coming to PS3/Vita

Jun 8th 2011 7:09AM (Joystiq)
All I see right now is that Capcom Dungeons and Dragons game, which is a win in my book. Yep, this game: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=_FecgABc0eY&feature=related

Which now makes me want that PSN re-release.
