Wow I can't believe I missed out on this game, love me some dungeon bashing, but its been a long time since I played one which wasn't disapointing as hell (I think the last one I REALLY enjoyed was dungeon siege 2!).
I'm so far out of the loop it's unbelievable though, only just heard about this! :D
You earn favour points as both a free and VIP character. These Favour points are translated to turbine points.
Free players have access to alot of content, and if they do it right can afford to of the high level quest chains, so (in theory) could get to level 20 entirely for free. (Or you could just pay about the price of a magazine and get a different quest chain, thats how I justify it anyway lol)
Oh christ, how did I miss the bottom.... It's going to be ranomly packaged crap sold in game shops in little sealed bags isn't it? When will they learn that random packaged models painted by wage slaves in China are NO a good idea! http://www.dungeonsNdragons.com
Well it probably comes as no surprise that I'm actually a big fan of DDO :D I did play Anarchy online back in the day, but I gotta be honest here, there's something that seems to be glossed over in all, Anarchy Online ended up being UNPLAYABLE as a free player very quickly. There was no way you could ever compete with anyone who was paying for it and you had access to was the grind. Any Dungeons that were worth doing always had a line of people waiting, and when it came time to form parties it was obvious who the free players were, and they didn't get picked... (That's not to say I didn't like Anarchy online, because I really enjoyed the first month or so, and it does have good points :D)
DDO on the other hand offers a pretty full and rewarding experiance as a free player, being able to earn ingame money as you earn favour with the factions gives the illusion that everyone is on an equal pegging. And the fact that you're only paying for extra dungeons or classes (which you keep for ever) rather than a monthly fee for access to Hyper weapons of doom (the Alien invasion pack in anarchy online for instance gave starting weapons so far beyond what free players had access to that it was depressing) means casual MMO players who have to work and sleep instead of level up can actually justify playing it :D
I'm in two minds about this, it's looking pretty awful, but not being able to create your own character really seems to defeat the point of a roleplaying game :P Dungeons Dragons
Sad to discover that my legendery holy, pure good, icy burst , force critical longbow can't be improved upon with the new crafting... but I guess thats the price I pay for breaking the game so early on.... (seriously a ranger should never have the most kills in a party, makes you wonder what the meat shields are doing wrong :P)
But on the plus side we get trip animation, sunder animation, some sort of reaction when you bluff or diplomacise a monster so you know its actually doing something.... all this and more, plus sorcerers finally get a prestige (although that renders my exising sorcerer unable to get into a prestige class because of silly choices I mad to maximise her eldritch might lol).
But the thing Im looking forward to the most is the new shuriken feat. throwing weapons have been less than effective for a long time, but now that we can craft an actual usable shuriken, and have a chance of throwing 12 with every strike (plus all the drow racial boosts for using that weapon) there's the chance for some monsterous damage out of thsoe deadly little stars!
Only promblem I forse is the auction house is going to go insane....
Some day I may have a live website, so if you're interested in the meandering rants of this tragic geek, why not check out my up and coming website: http://www.dungeonsNdragons.com
Oh, nothing contained on there as of yet, but if you're into D&D and have a hankering for some fresh new content, why not take a look at my upcoming website (in a few weeks/months time depending on the pressures of work)
