For the sake of good story telling, I completely agree with you. We saw what happened to Spiderman 3 the movie, lets hope this game's past success doesn't go to its head! =(

I may be in the minority when I say this, but I'd rather Sony shut down the PSN to improve it's security than leaving it open to more attacks. This sucks but honestly, Sony's taking the initiative to fix this and that's what I'd expect from them.
