Kinect Star Wars review: Needs Force feedback
Apr 4th 2012 3:55PM (Joystiq)Sorry bout that.
She really is enjoying it.
She likes the having playing the padawan level but we haven't done the dance thing yet. She thinks that's dumb.
Now to be fair, she loves Happy Action Theater and Kinect Rush. So that hopefully helps put it in perspective.
I would say that you can't treat Kinect games as if they were games more than they are experiences.
If I use the ST-TNG Holodeck as an crude example, they weren't playing games more than they were experiencing fantasy worlds. The same rules would apply IMO.
If I'm sounding shilly, It's just that I don't think they compare apples to apples. As games they aren't that good with the exception of the Gunstringer.
Kinect Star Wars review: Needs Force feedback
Apr 4th 2012 3:10PM (Joystiq)I think that reviewers are a little too harsh on Kinect games. From my experience so far, they aren't games in the sense that we are accustomed to. You have to go into it understanding that this is more of a virtual sandbox or imaginary play land. An imagination visualized vs an actual game.
I know, that this isn't for me, but the kids love the idea of being in the world that is generated.
Say I wanted to make a SW game that was like God Of War. The button combinations required to create the move set would be more complicated than what you can do using your arms.
Actually, the moves that Kratos (Mario, Link, etc..) do would be beyond the human ability to replicate.
For what the Kinect is, I'd say that they have done wonders with the control scheme. It's realistic motions in a fantasy world rather than impossible moves in a fantasy world.
PlayStation 3 gets Amazon Instant Video ... kinda out of nowhere
Apr 3rd 2012 3:49PM (Joystiq)I'd hope to see this on all consoles as it's such a no brainer.
They should also have a console based shopping app as it would be a nice accessory.
Rumor: Stripped down Xbox planned for 2013
Mar 26th 2012 3:53PM (Joystiq)If anything, MS, is dropping all these stories in order to see what takes off.
Obsidian's XBLA title 'on hold'
Mar 16th 2012 8:59PM (Joystiq)Seems like they either overestimate what they can deliver in a reasonable time frame or they suffer from some pretty serious scope creep.
I'm expecting to see them become bought by MS in 2012 because the talent is there, but needs some structure to bring it out. Plus MS needs some new companies in house to extend the 360's life cycle.
GOW is done, BulletStorm tanked and Halo 4 is the cornerstone of the years releases.
It's a good fit.

Mar 5th 2012 1:12PM (Joystiq)My real hope for Kinect was this kind of virtual screen interaction and where it would lead. Brings back the days on the PC where you needed the keyboard along with a stick.
Virtua Fighter's Akira playable in Dead or Alive 5
Mar 5th 2012 11:55AM (Joystiq)I'm guessing that at some point they probably will.
The trailer looks good, but Akira seems really overpowered in that world. I'm guessing that alot of the VF crew would have to be toned downed to make it playable.

Feb 20th 2012 6:11PM (Joystiq)Would be better on Kinect.
