Online retailer quits selling games, blames industry

Feb 1st 2007 10:10PM (Joystiq)
Deep Discount should have never started selling video games -- it doesn't fit their business model. I'm a long-time customer of theirs, having purchased DVDs from them for a number of years, because they do offer great deals, they ship most if not all of their products for free and thei customer service is top-notch.

The problem with games is there is no room for price markdowns, which is the reason every one goes to Deep Discount in the first place -- buying a game for $58.99 instead of the regular retail price of $59.99 is not a deep discount.

I think it's a good move by Deep Discount, but they should stop complaining and point the finger at themselves for the bad business decision that was made to start selling games in the first place.

PS3 named among the Top 10 most overrated products of all time!

Jan 19th 2007 11:03PM (Joystiq Playstation)
I agree with you Ed, there's no way that the game can be overrated at this point. Game developers and Blu-Ray DVD manufacturers haven't even tried to reach the full potential with the system.

Personally, I'm more of an Xbox 360 Fan Boy, than PS3, but I like what I've seen from the system in the early going, and I plan on picking one up in the next couple of weeks.

Sony has a proven track record with game systems, and I don't see it stopping now. I'd like to see this list next year again to see if the editors at PC Magazine feel the same way.

Can the PS3 be saved?

Killer Loki obviously has never seen the HD DVD from Microsoft. It's a great machine and has received rave reviews from a number of HD publications and editors.

I have it hooked up to my 50" Panasonic, and the picture is better than those provided by the broadcast and cable HD networks. I highly recommend it to anyone interested in buying a next gen DVD system.

Can the PS3 be saved?

I agree with Jay -- the PS3 doesn't need saving, they'll do that themselves within the year -- with more than 10 million PS2s sold, I think they have shown that they kind of know what they're doing over at Sony.

I'm a huge fan of the Xbox and Xbox 360, so I don't say this with any bias. It's just common sense for anyone who has followed the gaming industry, sluggish sales at launch are always cause for concern, but once good games -- and I mean exclusive games -- become available, Sony will be threatening the 360's reign.

Actually, I'm kind of glad that sales aren't going to well right now, because once I am able to pick one up, I won't have to search the web and local retailers for days looking for one, like I had to do with the 360.

Don't worry about the PS3. In all likelihood, their unit sales will top the 360 by the end of 2008.

Women's Health Mag: Grab your man's joystick

I'm an old school gamer, and my wife never has really gotten into it. She tried when I had my old NES, and I remember one time we were playing RBI Baseball. I tried to take it easy on her, but after I started winning she pinned me to the ground and started kissing me. I heard her pitch the ball while she was kissing me and I still hit a homer -- after that she said she'd never play a video game with me again, and unfortunately she never has.

Xbox 360 HDMI rumor rides again

Nov 22nd 2006 11:08AM (Engadget HD)
So, is there a definitive answer on whether your Xbox 360 can upconvert without the HD-DVD Drive, using only VGA cables? I just picked up the HD-DVD drive, but if I can get the same resolution using the internal drive of the 360, I rather return the HD-DVD.

After downloading the October update that had the 1080p upgrade, I tested the 360 by playing a scene from Beautiful Mind to see if it looked as good as it did when I watched it on HBO HD, and it didn't match the performance. If I used a VGA cable, will that make much of a difference with the picture quality?
