Final Fantasy XIII-2 has time travel, we have new screenshots

Sep 11th 2011 5:46PM (Joystiq)
@Faceless Troll

Crisis Core? Really? The game that introduced the stellar battle mechanic of leaving things like summoned monsters up to random chance on a literal slot machine? And by "random" I mean it would summon Ifrit or something when you had the last enemy down to 10hp.

WildStar is new MMO from Carbine Studios, NCsoft

Getting a real Borderlands meets Jak and Daxter vibe off of this one - and I like it. :D Not much of an MMO player myself (I've barely gotten into WoW) but this looks interesting enough to check out.

Fable: The Journey won't have swords or guns due to lack of feedback

Aug 12th 2011 7:50AM (Joystiq)
Yeah Pete, we expect feedback from melee weapons and guns, that's why people like me turn off the completely useless rumble feature.

Good thing there's no feedback from other things - like touching something, being hit by an enemy, feeling the warmth of fire, the cold of ice, the bumps of a carriage ride, the fatigue from walking through endless environments...

...he's just making excuses, isn't he?

Sony acquires inFamous dev Sucker Punch Productions

Aug 2nd 2011 3:47PM (Joystiq)
Good on Sony - they finally realized that it's cheaper to just buy the developer rather than constantly paying them for exclusivity and press releases where they say that their game could only run on PS3.

You can argue all you like, you know they do that.

Canada: 3DS $50 off at Future Shop through July [update: Best Buy too]

@baby sea tuna ....wait, are you arguing for or against my point? ^_^

Retailers didn't need to give customers incentives to buy the Wii or DS, they sold fine on their own. More than fine, actually. But now the 3DS is gathering dust on store shelves. Some stores still haven't sold their first shipment (of systems AND games) and retail chains are resorting to some really good sales that they have to be losing a lot of money on in order to move product.

@Vidaluko True, but I don't remember the Wii going on sale so soon after its launch.

Frank West is misunderstood in this Dead Rising 2: Off the Record trailer

Jul 27th 2011 10:06AM (Joystiq)
I think we're all focusing on the wrong thing here. Yeah yeah yeah, it's a cash grab by Capcom who love re-releasing the same game a few months later with only a little bit of extra content (MvC3, Resident Evil 5, etc.) but the real issue is this:

When did Frank West become southern? It sounds like the voice actor is channeling a 'southern gentleman' plantation owner. I don't remember his accent dipping that far South in Dead Rising 1.

$50 off at Future Shop. $30 gift card and the games are buy one get one free at Toys R Us.

Is the 3DS just not selling fast enough for retailers?

inFamous 2's opening cinematic brings us up to speed

May 14th 2011 7:16AM (Joystiq)
Ugh...that voice. This is what happens when the developers decide to 'reinvent' a character, give him a completely new voice actor, and a new look. Early in development it looked and sounded like Cole had gone through puberty in reverse between games. Because of the backlash they got from that, they redid the design, made him more like the old Cole, and had the new voice actor try to sound like the old one. I can understand that - you can't fire the guy mid-development and bring the old guy back but hearing this poor imitation of Cole, I'd prefer the voice we heard in the early inFamous 2 footage. Trying to sound like the first Cole must be murder on that guy's voice.

Still, you have to give Suckerpunch props for going to great lengths to build a time machine just so they could go back to the early days of Martin Sheen's career and have him record dialog for them.

Rumor: 'Wii Select' budget line launching this month

May 3rd 2011 5:29PM (Joystiq)
It's about time some of these titles got marked down to the standard Wii price range - and I say standard price range because if you look in any store, the less than $20 are the norm while most of the greater than $20 are the Mario titles and Zelda TITLE. Oh sure, there are other games at higher price points, but if they're not first party titles they've just been released less than a month ago. They cost too much now? Don't worry, they'll be down to $19.99 in no time.

Yeah, speaking of Zelda, is anyone else getting the sneaking suspicion that they're going to pull a Twilight Princess with Skyward Sword and release it on the Wii AND the Wii's successor?
