Creative gets really official with ZEN X-Fi as it appears in the wild

Jul 14th 2008 11:20AM (Engadget)
It depends on the video. Some xvid's work fine, others have to go through a conversion - usually due to the audio codec used. The included converter app is slow as hell, but I use alltoavi which runs a 22 minute vid in about 7 minutes.

Wii faces 'definite limit,' says UK's Xbox director

Sep 27th 2007 9:00PM (Joystiq)
what a pointless comment. every system faces a "definite limit" - it's just a matter of what that limit is. anyone who thinks that any system is "limitless" is delusional. will developers hit the graphical limit on the wii before the ps3? maybe. probably. but the ps3 and 360 have their own limits as well.

Nintendo survey hints at Wii demo plans

Aug 22nd 2007 6:40PM (Joystiq)
yes, yahoo games is a huge HUGE market. yes, its all casual games. that said, i wouldn't necessarily assume that the fact that they are online is a particularly driving factor behind that. most of the people i know that play those games play games like word whomp, solitaire and bejewelled. yes, most of those have online chat rooms built in - but none of my friends/relatives use or pay any attention to them.

i bought my wife the pogo island game on the ds. she plays it for at least an hour a day. its online component allows her to win tokens on her ds and then connect to the server to upload them to her main account. she's done this about once in the 4 or 5 months that she's had it. if it had no ability to connect online, she wouldn't notice or care.

all that said, im sure that there are people who only want to play against other people. but we see that in all facets of gaming. its just very short-sighted to automatically assume that just because a popular product has a feature, that the feature is the driving force behind its success.

Bumblebee... in paper

and i'm sure that the fact that volkswagon refuses to allow hasbro/takara to do a new bumblebee as a bug has nothing to do with it, right?

VW will not allow any of their products to be depicted in violent manners any more.

Wii developers talk shop

"The ordering points online is unwieldy due to Nintendo not storing any information and the tax structure that makes it necessary to enter county and other info during checkout."

i thought so too at first. it would make it so nice and easy to buy more points - just like shopping at amazon. then i realized how many games we would drunkenly buy. if i have to buy more points, i have to get up, find my wallet, dig out my credit card, and then enter in all that info. that long process is quite the deterrent when we're partying, and serves as a nice unintended protection from over-spending.

Eidos holding out for better PS3 install base

Mar 30th 2007 12:09PM (Joystiq)
comtar, no it is not a remake. it is a reboot. they are relaunching the movie series from scratch, just as batman begins was a much needed reboot of the batman series.
