Recon-X military-grade PDA is "everything-proof"

Jul 9th 2006 4:34AM (Engadget)
Actually, the Recon is a solid unit and good value when compared to other competing products (such as the FW series of terminals from Radix or the JLT-8403). The unit isnt intended for general consumer use but rather a working environment. If you're buying in quantity, the price comes down, and it comes down by quite a bit, I might add. We're rolling out 250 of these for use in delivery vans and trucks for a distributor and the Recon is perfect for that work environment where drivers will use and abuse the tech, especially in a heavily industrial environment. Buying a consumer product, such as a Dell, HP and butting it into a "rugged" case just isnt an option.

For people wanting a cheaper, rugged option for their own use, might want to try the M2 line of rugged handhelds. They're a little cheaper, but theres a slight drop in the IP rating, but most consumers wont be reaching those tolerances anytime soon, it's mostly a non-issue.

For day-to-day users, buying a Recon is like buying a 4x4 and not going off-road, although that doesnt stop people buying them!

"Erotic" themes too much for Sony in America

Jun 8th 2006 12:41PM (Joystiq)

Far be it for me to wade in with my tuppence but, as mentioned before, shouldnt everyone wait until they've played the actualy game.

This is sure to be a touchy subject, but it appears that people are debating on subject matter they havent fully seen aside from an interpretation from a Gamasutra article.

I would actually wait until the game is released to pass judgement on anything that may be included in the final product. I dont think I'll be way out of line for suggesting that there wont be this huge gammut of child based erotic content and that the sensationalist hype machine has gone way overboard, and I'd certainly put money on this all ending in a somewhat anti climatic fizzle, rather than the huge sensationalist bang that a few people seem to be predicting/favouring.

From what little I've seen the game has more in common with the book Lets Go Play At The Adams' by Mendal W. Johnson. A novel written in 1974 featuring a group of children at the center of a kidnapping and torture plot while their parents are away on vacation. The subject matter definetly more intense in the novel than anything I've seen in the Rule of Rose trailer. If they can deal with it in 1974, shouldnt we be able to deal with a similar topic in 2006?

Either way, shouldnt we pass judgement after we have all of the facts present?

MacBook screen, my thoughts

May 22nd 2006 1:05PM (TUAW.com)
I once had a cat called Willow.
She disappeared one day.

None of my Macs have done this.

And the new glossy screen on the Macbooks arent as invasive as I would imagined. But then I guess it's horses for courses, or in the case - users for MacBooks....although it doesnt have the same ring to it, does it!?

Has the 12" PowerBook simply disappeared?

Hospital server crashes under weight of music downloads

The NHS is simply incompetant, no more so than it's IT departments. All the departments seems to function the same, it's a "job for life" meaning that people dont get fired when the fit hits the shan in a big way. Theres very little in the way of accountability as long as you say "yes sir, no sir" and keep upper management happy.

The IT teams I've had exposure to, here in the UK, seems to use their PCT systems as a live sandbox for learning and upgrading their knowledge. I dont think theres anywhere else I've been where it's been acceptable that people cant log onto a PC for over a month or where network failure is actually a weekly occurance and part of the staff general working expectations, and all because key people in the IT team are experimenting with the live system.
And when I say logon to a PC, I'm simply not refering to a receptionist or clerks PC, this include systems used in A&E, Radiology and even the AS400 based PAS systems. Lets not talk about the lack of testing or proper systems implementation procedures, they simply dont happen.

The issue relating to this blog entry isnt that unheard of. My only surprise is that we dont see more of these reports, but then I guess the NHS would be too keen on publicly announcing it's failures.

It comes as no surprise that the NPfIT project (now called Connecting For Health) is failing and having so many problems; but this is another issue, one that appears to be getting more attention recently.

Does a hard drive have a place on DS?

Feb 14th 2006 8:29AM (Joystiq Nintendo)
$225?
I thihnk I'd much prefer to get a GP2X for movies and enter-mo-tainment on the move. In fact I could do that and still have cash left over for some games....

While, yes, there is the large storage space (4GB is quite hefty for casual movies and media) I always do wonder about shoehorning additional functionality into a unit such as the DS.
To me the DS is about interaction rather than being a media solution.

Bleah bleah moo moo!

educate them, please do....or I will...with my huge farming demon!

And yes, I take YOUR posts seriously...I was wounded by that one?

Wounded I say....

Wounded....

Harvest Moon DS bound for Europe

Jan 13th 2006 11:03AM (Joystiq Nintendo)
*sighs*

Hey man, Harvest Moon DS is going to expand on the genre by adding basic RPG elements this time around, so expect little dungeon crawling like quests while trying to run your farm. An added little bonus is the ability to "grow" monsters and have them help around the farm.
This isnt your standard Harvest Moon, oh no!

I thought you guys, being gamers, would at least know this!!

*tuts*
