I live in hope that at some point minds will change. It's the stupidest thing ever, it's a chance to reach an audience that may have, so far, gone without hearing their music outside a Martin Scorsese film.
I know Plant is adamant but in the case of Floyd I suspect it would just be too complicated both legally and ego-wise getting Waters and Gilmore together long enough to sign the contracts and that's assuming they're interested enough.
I disagree about the Beatles, I'd say that you're talking more about Green Day, that's was a mistake.
The Beatles release got a lot of mainstream attention, I think on the whole it did well.
The other problem is that the genre peaked way too soon, Harmonix is smart to stick with it, owning a market is a good thing even if it's a small one.
I have them all too and have never actually played online, it seems weird somehow considering it's such a social people in your living room kind of game.
I doubt 4.5 mill but I don't doubt the real number is quite large and going after people via IP is a pretty impotent exercise as it's not going to stop piracy in any shape and form anymore than a drug bust stops people from buying drugs.
Piracy is part of the overhead of making video games, sorry, it sucks but that doesn't mean you can stop it.
Just make great games and there will always be people who will buy them. I would say that about 90% of the people who bought the WItcher 2 (awesome game if you haven't played it you really must) knew full well they could get it off the torrents and chose not to. We will always give you money for your work just as others never will.
That's what they have to learn to live with otherwise they will also lose profit paying for lawyers.
