SoulCalibur 5 review: The old flame still burns

Jan 31st 2012 12:51PM (Joystiq)
Unfortunately, I think this game is going to fail on the sales end. I wish it wasn't true, because I really like older Soul Calibers, but this isn't going to work.

Without the single-player suite that the series is known for, it has little replay value for casual players. That's what made MK work so well; it had so much single-player content that anyone could get value out of it. Without that, SC5 has to rely on the hardcore scene.

However, it's not the most popular game in the tournament scene. At this point, competitive fighting games are essentially a spectator sport, and not many people enjoy watching Soul Caliber. It slower than most popular games, and it hasn't been known for it's deep systems.

Regardless on how fun this game might be to play with friends (and it sounds like it has some flaws), I don't think it will do well. It just doesn't properly serve either audience.

Since a Petabyte is 1000 terabytes, it's definitely less.
