Damn.

I wasn't planning on picking up Skyrim until January after the holiday season is over with (not enough time until then for an epic game like this, plus colossal back log). Now after seeing that trailer, and getting a serious Game of Thrones vibe from it, I might have to get this sooner.

When does the Game of Thrones season one Blu-ray set come out? I think that plus Skyrim would be awesome to have in my possession for the coming winter.

That's what I was thinking.

This one minute of live action Skyrim was better than all of the big budget Hollywood live action video game films ever made, combined. About the only live action game promo or trailer that is equal to this would have to be the "We Are ODST" one for Halo 3: ODST.

Although, maybe add the one for Resistance 3, where the people are on the train as it travels across the Chimera-scarred US heartland. That one was aces as well.

I'll probably get downvoted to oblivion for this...

but this review reminds me why I've been wishing a series like Halo could get a graphical and auditory shot in the arm equivalent to what BF3 seems to have in terms of pure visual/sound design mojo.

My reasoning being that Halo still seems to have a good balance between offering a great single player campaign, robust multiplayer with a consistent mp community, and now with Firefight mode, good horde-style co-op. Plus Reach has a nice campaign co-op (4 players) as well as matchmaking for that mode too.

Not that BF, CoD are bad. I like both of those franchises. I'll surely pick up BF3 after the craziness of the holidays ends, and I'll rent MW3 for the single player campaign...

It just seems to me, most BF and CoD fans are more interested in multiplayer. Same with Gears. Multiplayer and Horde seem to be the main draw.

Of course, Reach was a nice graphical step up from Halo 3 and ODST. But dammit, I want more shiny graphix. The Haloverse would be a great place to push a new engine. Hopefully that is what 343 are doing with part 4.

Note to Epic games:

I didn't buy Gears 3 so I could play as a fat over-tattoed trucker with a lime green gun that looks like something you'd find in the aisles of Toys R Us.

Just wait until next-gen, when there is PDLC (pre-downloadable content).

In the coming years, developers and publishers will probably sell all manner of add-ons before their games even ship.

That was a good one too. AvP Arcade reminded me of some of the other great arcade brawlers of the time like Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles, X-men, and Streets of Rage 2.

I remember the Genesis Alien 3 game. I have to say, the SNES one was a lot better. I also have a soft spot in my heart for that Aliens arcade game that Konami made.

Then there was the excellent Alien Trilogy for the PSOne and Saturn. Bungled the story of the first three Alien films, but it captured the mood and the excitement of the second film pretty well.

Hell, Contra might as well be an Aliens game as well (or, maybe an Aliens + Predator + Rambo + Commando game if you will).

At least there are still crickets in the post apocalyptic ruins of America after the Republicans... I mean the asteroid Apophis makes everything all explodey.
