Rumor: Valve working on 'Steam Box' console standard with customizable controller, biometrics

@Masker13

Probably pretty reasonable considering there will be various manufactures competing to sell their hardware. That said it seems that Valve will allow manufacturers to build machines with various specs, so long as they meet/surpass the standard. So I'd expect a range of prices from about 600 to 2000 USD.

I don't think this will be a console so much as an OS which is skinned so as to have a TV friendly UI, with manufacturers making TV stand friendly boxes. Which sounds alot like a console but it will have a variety of manufacturers and it seems that they will be allowed to have different specs, so long as they meet a minimum standard.

So basically it'd probably be a hybrid of consoles and traditional PC's.

Assuming this is true, I can't imagine Valve wouldn't let people build their own boxes and install this OS, although we'll just have to wait and seen what benefits their OS would have over Windows for a standard PC Gaming set-up. Probably less background CPU/RAM usage.

PS3 price cut to $250, 320 GB model goes to $300 [update]

@Mr Hett

You make a great point ( and I really wish we get a new PS4 with such great specs ). That said, they don't have to go all the way to 4k. I'm sure TV manufacturers will find some gimmick or increase the resolution a little bit once they decide the profit margins on their 3DTV's just aren't doing it for them. Of course if it's nothing dramatic like the jump to 4k there's no reason that Sony won't release a console before their TV's star rolling out. I for one would welcome us getting closer to BF3 PC graphics like they showed off in the trailers :p

Unless they intend to release a new playstation that can handle 3D better, so as to sell more 3DTV's , I'd imagine they'd wait on releasing a new console until the next round of TV's with higher resolutions or whatever, so as to sell more of those TV's.

I'd imagine this is targeted for Eastern Europe so as to introduce the people to the PSP?

Games at Google service revealed in job listing

I could definitely see google actually developing games, if only because the founders think it's be pretty cool if they owned a game studio. That said I think this probably means some kind of distribution service.

More of a question of what the xbox fanboys would say about this. I of course posted this comment before the update to the story.
