I made an account just to say that you're middle school "business" class apparently was not enough to teach you correct finances. I'm guess this was around 1998 or 2003 when Apple stock was "around 6$ a share". Apple's stock has appeared to grow faster than Microsoft (which it probably did but not at the margin you're quoting) because Apple has not done a stock split or issued a dividend from the late 90's to now. Contrast this with Microsofts multiple stock splits (you have 1 stock worth 100$ they make it into 2 stocks worth 50$) and consistent dividends you see a lower market price.

TLDR Apple stock would be a better choice but not for the reasons Mmmmz said (merely the price of stock rising)
