I just finished Xenoblade and it is now my favorite (J)RPG. I want to play Xenogears but its reception is too polarizing for me to justify a purchase this second.
Is it worth a buy, on the PSN or whatnot? I'm all for convoluted and drawn-out stories as long provided there is some intellectual worth, and that the story ends on a good note (not necessarily happy, but high-quality). There's nothing that grinds my gears (lame pun) more than a long RPG with a promising story that disappoints in its final hours.
This article is actually really intriguing to me. I'm in the school of thought where Native Son-esque structure/pacing (vague reference, perhaps) interests, not bores, me.
@Faceless Troll Yeah I totally agree... saving $100 on a then-new PS3 Slim, two Black Fridays ago, was insane of me. As is getting Battlefield 3 for $30, this Black Friday. I guess I'll just never learn to keep my cool...
While this is a cool/smart idea, I don't get why the boxes, in general, are so big in the first place. PSOne game cases were appropriate because they weren't too large for the actual disk, but PS2/PS3 (not to mention pretty much every other disk-based console I can think of) cases are large for no reason. Yeah, PS2/GCN/(maybe Xbox, I wouldn't know?) had little holders for memory cards, but like many other gamers, I bought third-party memory cards. And now with the PS3/360/Wii we don't even use memory cards, and yet the boxes are still so large! I'm a fan of nice, big, full-color, many-paged, art-covered (I could go all day) instruction manuals, but I'd rather them put it in the game, to save both paper and plastic.
I actually agree with this. The races, technology, and style of the Mass Effect series are really interesting and even after just two games rival what's seen in Ivalice, Hyrule, and other well known universes. It'd be cool to see a game in the same setting (...the galaxy...) but with a different story, mechanics and whatnot. Maybe not a FPS or a MMO, but an action game with more emphasis on biotics/melee instead of gunplay would be fun. Or anything really, as long as we get more Krogan goodness.
Just because it's been quite a while since playing a console Zelda game, I popped in Twilight Princess earlier today, started a new file because I couldn't find my memory card, and then was given the ability to name my character and my horse.
In defense of Xenogears
