An apology, and a note on hype
Sep 8th 2006 7:38AM (Joystiq)Alright, folks. Joystiq was one of about 100 sites that posted pretty much the same exact goddamn news story. The negative reaction to the news shows exactly what went wrong with the story.
The readers/commentors.
YOU are the ones who posted 900 different theories as to what the news was. YOU are the ones calling for somebody to get fired because of a NDA-released news item. YOU are the ones who were dissapointed in what was said. 1/2 the comments in the thread sounded excited to me that the Wii was in production. You know, unlike the bad news about Sony that we've been hearing recently. It's astounding that good news about a major console release on a gaming blog cannot be posted without mass hysteria.
On top of that, the editor apologized (something he did NOT have any need to do) to make you feel better about Nintendo not having something more exciting to tell you.
Joystiq/Summa posted that some exciting news was going to be able to be released publically after 12am. They could not tell you what it was/what it wasn't.
How in the hell should anybody lose their job, because of them doing what they have to do? If you want to fire him over that, then you probably yell and holler anytime a reviewer goes against whatever your opinion about the game is.
Every single one of you blaming Joystiq, yelling at them, calling them unprofessional (guess Rueters, CNNMoney, Kotaku, IGN, Gamespot, etc are all unprofessional too?) need to get some damn perspective in your lives.
Nintendo's (sometimes sordid) past now available on Google news archives
Sep 6th 2006 2:34PM (Joystiq)Seriously, after living through the times when Nintendo barely allowed third party software, to now, when they need it the most, it's hard to be biased. For or against, all three of the present companies have done wrong and right.
Sony right now, is making far too many mistakes that Sega has already paid for. Two years ago it was Nintendo. Microsoft bobbled their launch as well.
Stop this ridiculous "Joystiq is BIASED for/against Sony/Nintendo/Microsoft." The very fact that there are comments in each thread voicing each said bias ought to tell you something. It probably won't.
Are you ready to break-up with Sony?
Sep 6th 2006 12:34PM (Joystiq)Devil May Cry- Made by Capcom, who incidentally just made Dead Rising. You may have heard of it. Sold 1/2 a million copies in what, a week?
FFXIII- SquareEnix is already developing several games for the 360. Also, not too long ago people could never think of seeing a Final Fantasy on anything besides a Nintendo console.
MGS - Kojima definately likes Sony, but has ported his flagship title to other consoles. He also is not 100% responsible for where his games go.
He is also fiercely proud of keeping things Japanese, meaning Sony usually, but there will be a definate change in many Japanese developers after North America runs away with most of the launch units. Will Kojima feel slighted by this? It happened before, with Nintendo. Time will tell.
North American, Japanese PS3 launch limited to 500,000 units
Sep 6th 2006 7:49AM (Joystiq)Just because 1/3 of those landed in Japan where they couldn't sell, doesn't make it relevant.
Happy Labor Day!
Sep 4th 2006 11:35AM (Joystiq)He spoke at the school too. In fact, I could still get a job at the test kitchen in Atlanta if I wanted.
How does this relate to gaming?
It just does.
Like it or not, Madden continues to be a cash cow
Sep 1st 2006 4:41AM (Joystiq):D
:)
;)
..and any other stupid smilies I can throw up there to be even more condescending.
Like it or not, Madden continues to be a cash cow
Aug 31st 2006 11:54PM (Joystiq)Again.
The NFL wanted to have only one license holder for their video game product. EA simply had the better offer. As much as I disagree with EA buying out most of the industry, this was not their doing. Madden is their flagship title, what did you expect them to do.
PS If you don't wish to sound like an elitist, maybe you want to avoid platitudes like
"2,000,000 people bought Madden, because 2,000,000 people didn't know any better"
Like it or not, Madden continues to be a cash cow
Aug 31st 2006 10:01PM (Joystiq)They also do not buy other games. Buying Madden means that you never bought Psychonauts or Beyond Good & Evil. Madden fans only buy one game a year. They are truly the scourge of the gaming community.
You know Spore is coming from EA, right? Without the annual cash inflow of Madden, that game might never even seen production. Never mind scores of other projects.
Newly designed PSP coming in 2007 [update 1]
Aug 30th 2006 12:41PM (Joystiq)Newly designed PSP coming in 2007 [update 1]
Aug 30th 2006 12:34PM (Joystiq)Why are they focusing on things that don't need to be fixed?
Fix the single analog scheme. That, above all else, is making any type of game extremely hard to make for the system. All control schemes in the past 10 years have used the dual stick method.
Do yourself a favor Sony, and listen to the fans and critics on this one.
