I must've been playing a different demo than all the people who are gushing over Conviction. I've been a huge Splinter Cell fan and have been rabidly awaiting Conviction, but the demo just made me sad. The controls felt like Sam was walking on ice (ie: he took half a step to actually stop when you release the controls) and the close-up character graphics (like the bad guy in the glasses) looked like they were rendered back in 2003. Even if it was a "in game" cut scene instead of a CGI movie, those "slab" faces were just horrible.

In all honestly, I'll probably still pick up the title because I love the franchise, but the demo has made me think of this as a $40 "on sale" title rather than the $60 "release day" game I was anticipating.

I think Microsoft either partially owned or fully owned (owns) the IPs for future installments though. The press release isn't very clear.

Smith & Tinker Acquires FASA IPs

Smith & Tinker is pleased to announce that it has licensed from Microsoft the electronic entertainment rights for Mr. Weisman's previous creations of MechWarrior, Shadowrun, Crimson Skies and the other properties of the FASA catalog. We're not quite ready to announce our plans for each property, but please be assured that our goal is to surprise and delight old fans, while welcoming new fans to these fantastic worlds.

Pretty sure Microsoft still owns FASA, so the chances of this coming to a Sony platform are pretty minimal I would guess.

Been reading for about a year and a half, mostly when I started noticing that all the cool gaming info on Engadget was from Joystiq. Now I read Joystiq more often than Engadget.
