Jan 5th 2007 11:58PM (Joystiq)The truth is DOA isn't regarded as highly as Tekken is in competitive fighting game circles (aka playing for money); I think that says enough. Sure, Virtua Fighter is probably better than Tekken, but that game has never caught on in the US probably due to its learning curve. Soul Calibur gets more unbalanced with every release. Tekken though, fits nicely in the middle. Unless you count Smash Bros, which beats everything (in the US anyway).
Bottom line is, if you're a casual player, then it doesn't matter whch one out of these 5 you play. And if you have the proper tv, DR looks much better than the PSP or arcade version (for those of you who have never played DR and like Tekken, go to your local arcade right now if you still have one, it's great).
Jfls, Evo 2k6 was dope. Were you there? Good to see a fellow member of the fighting game community.

Ubisoft seeks designer for Red Steel sequel
Nov 29th 2006 12:09PM (Joystiq)-I don't get this debate on four-player splitscreen versus LAN versus online. Some people just don't have an internet connection or four systems and games, and want to be social and hang out with friends, period. To call that "antiquated" means you have no real-life friends to me. All three have their merits.
-Finally, about the graphics, if you have a component video cable, and a wide screen, the game at times looks better than anything on Wii and GCN (even RE4). It's just wildly inconsistent. The game is not nearly as polished as it could have been.
Get over the controls, the game is good people. Not Gears/Halo good though, and probably never will be. Wait for the patch to work out some kinks...
Metareview - Red Steel
Nov 29th 2006 11:23AM (Joystiq)Is Red Steel as good as the early hype? No, but anyone that was expecting the next Goldeneye was going to be let down anyway. Yahoo Games a 4.0? Everyone here knows the game isn't as bad as other Wii launch games (Rampage and GT anyone?).
