Just because its a MOD (content created within another game) doesn't mean its going to be terrible, and even if it is give him props for trying.
I once heard of a game called counter strike, made using the half life engine turned out to be a pretty big deal. Golden Eye Source, a MOD based on GoldenEye64 using the HL2 Source Engine, not bad for a free mod.
Long story short give the guy a chance and review his mod once its not.
If you think making games and original ones at that is so easy why don't you provide us a link of something you have created and we can all tell you how awesome it is.....
