The Force is with SWTOR: EA stock bounces back, budget revealed

Jan 21st 2012 4:33PM (Massively)
@LA1111

From what I've heard from the Dev team, they apparently already have the script written out for future expansions, and have all of the voice actors on a long contract. They don't seem to be that worried about it, so we'll have to see how they handle it.

BioWare's docs: Free-to-play can't invest and create at our level

Dec 28th 2011 8:00PM (Massively)
I probably won't get a very positive response on this article's comment thread because the Free to Play fans seem to be out in full force, but I actually am glad to see Bioware saying this.
I'll be blunt about this- I think Free to Play MMORPGs are a complete scam. You don't pay $15 a month, but if you want the full game experience, you better pay $10 for this content pack, and may as well buy this armor pack, and these potions to make the new content easier to get through, and this cosmetic armor so that my character actually look half-decent. In the end, you've paid $50 in microtransactions in the course of 2 months. If Bioware ever decides to go with that model, they will lose my support.

WoW: Mists of Pandaria will introduce Pokemon-like Pet Battle System

I'm honestly not sure whether this is unique and innovative or derivative and uncreative. On one hand, it sounds fun in theory, but on the other hand, I'm not sure how well it work in practice .

Oh well, it's not like they'll ever change their horrifically boring quests.

Sorry farmers, but your cow is in another CastleVille (or: Zynga announces CastleVille for Facebook)

Oct 11th 2011 11:22PM (Joystiq)
OK, if the following Zynga games aren't created in the next few years, I will give $100 to every Joystiq commenter:

SpaceVille
WarVille
AdventureVille
FarmVille ONLINE
CarVille
MushroomVille
SoldierVille
MusicVille
SporstVille
TriviaVille
PuzzleVille
[Insert Product Here]Ville
JesusVille

I was going to have a rip-off of the obscure aquarium genre up there, until I found out that IT ALREADY EXISTS.

Star Wars: The Old Republic launching Dec. 20, starts at $15 per month

@TheChezDispenser

Um, no. That's not Darth Malak, that's a Sith Warrior Player Character. He looks nothing like Malak except for the face mask and bald head, everything else is different.

Metareview: Gears of War 3

@INTRO

Oh my God, guys! A person gave Gears of War 3 a 9.0! I mean really, Gears of War 2 got a 9.5 on the same site, this should be at least that! I say we hang and quarter the person who reviewed it!

Seriously people, it's half a point on a single review. It's not that big of a deal.

Perfect World Entertainment confirms Star Trek Online going F2P this year

@Lucidus

At least SW:TOR is focusing on one gameplay mode and not trying to do two like STO did. That resulted in messy, unpolished ground combat which you were forced to do for 30% of the time.Really, Bioware is doing the wise thing and focusing on ground combat and keeping space a minigame so they don't end up with a ridiculously unpolished section of the game.

SWTOR launch date hinges on fan beta reaction

Aug 31st 2011 8:01PM (Massively)
@Nenene

Bioware: While we really want to get this game out soon, we are prepared to push it back if we find a significant flaw in the game. We need to have a high-quality launch.

Nenene: What?! You're rushing things! While you really want to get this game out soon, you should be prepared to push it back if you find a significant flaw in the game. You need to have a high-quality launch! Also, you should just completely scrap the game and create a new one because that makes complete logical sense!

What.

'Irrational Interviews' pairs Ken Levine with the BioWare docs on latest episode

@BigAndShiny

Oh my God, I hate it when people say SW:TOR is being developed by Mythic. The game started development in 2005, Mythic was incorporated into Bioware in the beginning of 2010. Bioware recently brought a few PvP developers in recently because, well, Warhammer had good PvP.

Anyway, hopefully I'll watch this soon, looks fascinating. Love how the commenters here naturally go on a rage fest against Bioware even though this video has nothing to do with that. It's kind of ridiculous.

The Secret World opens up about its hybrid pricing model

Aug 27th 2011 4:51PM (Joystiq)
Hm. The last MMORPG to do this Sub + Microtransaction model was Star Trek Online. This is not a good thing.
