@Author X That is what adventure mode is but at some point they said specifically that the adventure update was not adventure mode.

For servers settings like that already exist. In singleplayer you can prevent hostile mobs from spawning by playing on peaceful difficulty

Saying doom is 10 times greater grapchily than minecraft is definitely a gross exaggeration. Minecraft when it comes to the level of texture quality is doom perhaps but the lighting is much better, not to mention that its in true 3d.

But if you dont like the standard textures, you can download and easily add texture packs which replace the standard while you play. There are even high resolution textures, but they are not supported offically.

While the textures are somewhere between 8 and 16 bit the lighting has improved recently and even before that you have to take into account the pure size of a minecraft world. Some modern lighting has been neglected, but it is mostly due to that one of the things that they want to do is make sure that any computer which could run it when they released alpha in 2009 can still play it after its officially released.

I think to really appreciate the game you have to play a version thats relatively up to date. The closest to that is the demo which i will include the link to.

@Tihn This update is not actually adventure mode. Rather the adventure update adds new gameplay mechanics to the games survival mode. But if you want to know about adventure mode you can learn about it on the minecraft wiki.

The video which was included was showing off basic use of a new block to be added in 1.7 called the piston as well as the sticky piston which would allow you to move most blocks when the piston is supplied a redstone current.(redstone is minecraft simulated electricity)
