Can somebody help me understand something?

There's people cranking out mods like crazy for Minecraft, the pistons mod has been released months ago already.

Why is it then that these updates take so long, and add so very very little to the game itself? As someone else mentioned, look at 'Better than Wolves' for instance, it has amazing features and was created by a fan of the game. Another example would be Millenaire which adds villages all over the world which you can help build up.

This is not meant to attack Notch or his team, I'm just a bit confused why his updates take so long and add so little.
