The short answer: yes. Thanks mostly to Skyrim and a couple other games.

It is, the problem is I don't know that it can recover from the bad rap it has. The game is a lot better than its reputation on pretty much every Warhammer Online related forum would let on. I think it might be too late, though.

Amateur documentary tackles online game addiction

Jan 30th 2012 11:02AM (Massively)
I don't think it's addiction so much as lack of self control. That, and unlike certain other video game genre's, MMO's have stronger social aspect, and an aspect where one's clan/guild is dependent on the individual and the individual likewise dependent on the clan/guild. So there is an added social pressure where the player might feel they are letting their friends/guildmates down by missing a raid, warband, arena session, or just not logging in. In some ways, it becomes like a second job, where you feel obligated to your clan or guild. Many of them have schedules for raiding, hierarchies, etc.

I see that as different than addiction. It may become unhealthy if it starts getting in the way of other responsibilities, but that isn't a scenario unique to online gaming.

Creating a new world: 38 Studios discusses the formation of Amalur's IP

In some ways, I almost prefer the stylized graphics I've seen from the screenshots of this game. For me anyway, many games with more "realistic" artwork just end up looking ridiculous, especially when it comes to character models and animations.
