Report: Activision scoops up blackops2.com

Jan 10th 2012 1:00AM (Joystiq)
I got a feeling that this is going to be the last CoD of its kind. I know I'm baiting a lot of flamers with this, but hear me out. The Modern Warfares have often been considered the "real" CoDs, at least from the things I've seen, while the Treyarch games have been seen more as sideliners. The story for MW3 and the MW series got wrapped up nice and tight, and they didn't leave themselves much space for another sequel to follow the story. The next true CoD game is slated to come out around the time that the new consoles will start arriving, around November 2013 judging by the current trend. They couldn't put the same game on a next gen console, so they'll have a new engine by then. And let's be honest - this one has worked very well for us. With luck, they'll use the new engine on BlOps 2 as a testing ground, and we'll get a taste of it early.

I gotta hear these.

Neal Tiles steps down as president of G4, Adam Stotsky takes over

@(Unverified) attack of the show and x-play should stay on (the network is a geek network, after all), but yeah, the network needs some more familiar faces. AVGN, Kotaku, some Yahtzee, maybe even some Egoraptor. Throw in a couple animes, get the original Pokemon series in there just because, and they'll be off to a good start.

I shudder every time i think of what happened to G4. When I discovered it, it was X-Play and Attack of the Show (with Olivia Munn) that they reran all the time. The network was actually about games, and the stuff that wasn't games was mostly good stuff like Ninja Warrior or good Star Trek and Lost reruns. Now the network's biggest shows are two separate versions of Cops, three separate versions of Ninja Warrior (Unbeatable Banzuke was interesting but just alright, and American Ninja Warrior was to the original what the American version of Hole in the Wall or Silent Library to the original Japanese version), and an endless Cheaters marathon. Christ, they had a show at one point that was basically softcore porn around the world with bad comedians coming in to make bad puns over it. The network has become entirely shit, and it either needs to get back on track as a legitimate gaming network or go off and die.

@Scuffles actually that's a good point. Don't they do that for Battlefield and Skate already?

@Warlock234 yeah, the brand hasn't been too relevant in a while, so continuing to invest money in the website would have been a waste. This isn't the same as the modernwarfare3.com fiasco either, where the guy used it to slam MW3 and promote BF3. ssx is more or less a sequence of random letters without the EA franchise giving it relevance, not to mention it's disturbingly close to "sex". That alone gives it a bit of value as a domain name.

@TubaDude49 I thought it was something like Super Snowboarding Xtreme. Thank god, Snowboard Supercross is way better.

Holy balls I just had the best idea. F2P Starfox, sort of like an MMO. That would be PERFECT.

Bastion's score was incredible, the fact that they gave them the best score award was awesome. Zia's song was one of the few times I've ever tried to find a song outside of the game because of how good it was, and I still sing the lyrics to myself to this day. Very proud of the VGA's for recognizing it.
