UGLY?? Speaking from 10 years of graphic design experience, this is a great package design. They did as much as they could to keep the look clean, simple, yet noticable. The Wii logo stands out quite well, and from a brandmaking sense it is a very successful design.
Hell, they dont even have the Nintendo logo (or name) next to the Wii logo. That is a good move because right now public perception is Nintendo = Lame. They dont want their own company name to get in the way of the Wii hype. Smart moves overall.
Google is still just as stupid of a name as Wii IMO. A cool name and a good name do NOT have to be the same thing. Casuals will remember Wii.. they did not however remember GameBox, Xcube, and Playstation360. This is a simple divergence tactic. So regardless if the name is stupid (like Google) it still may be very functional.
