That's a nice sentiment, but the real problem with the lack of fresh IPs lies with the consumer. Activision knows the market and the majority of it hates the unknown and fears innovation or you can blame people for being just plain stupid. I think MW3 is actually a decent game that really gets too much flak for being no 1. BTW I like both series, except MW2. For all the Chest pounding EA did about Battlefield 3, the launch was completely botched rittled with connection issues and game ending bugs and the PS3 version still hasn't had the 1.3 update or any squad com/ controller lag fixes. At the very least MW3 or any Call of Duty has been stable, where as every Battlefield game since the series inception has been riddled with fustrating issues.
These days every game has a patch within a month if not a few days after its release. Developers use patches as a crutch to push games out more frequently. My game froze only a few hours after playing, so I'm a bit puzzled how if a good QA team couldn't have found it given a proper amount of time.
1st all those series you mentioned have noticeable improvements especially Uncharted 3's graphic fidelity. If you think UC1 and 3 look even in the same ball park you're either lying or never played either. That's just visuals, the Uncharted has a great campaign and went on to add a multiplayer feature.
2nd it not just MW3 as if those are the only CoD games. There is MW, WaW, MW2, Black Ops and now 5th time in a row its the SAME game in every way only adding incremental improvements to graphics and layering more BS on top of a broken multiplayer.
Actually the whole Nintendo is doomed article/argument is different, because it's the first time in decades they have posted a loss like this. I doubt they will go under any time soon, but their current situation is alarming. It's easier for me to see and accept this, because I wasn't one of those kids who grew up with a Nintendo. My memories are not attached to those games, not to say I didn't enjoy playing them when I could. I think Nintendo has a bigger problem on their hands than Sony. Nintendo is dealing with flagging sales of the Wii, 3DS lackluster performance, and the awkward timing of the Wii U. Nintendo has done little to expand their portfolio of games and have turned their backs on the "core" gamer in favor of the "casual" market that never existed. That is why I am less sympathetic toward Nintendo because they have been resting on their laurels relying on rehashing their franchises and releasing half bakes re-released of outdated hardware, not to mention the way they have ignored 3rd party developers. So the Sony situation is different, they still have a fighting chance and they have done a great job trying to change their business model, where are Nintendo hadn't learned from the Virtual Boy, N64, or Gamecube and after decades in the business its starting to catch up with them. Every year less and less kids grow up on Mario.
Yeah, they do have a great business model, for consumers at least. They create quality hardware (TVs, PCs, etc) and in the video game space they have created stellar new IPs, something the composition has done little of. To me, Sony's strategy has always been: create a high quality product and people will buy it. Unfortunately the we live in a Walmart world where cheap and disposable is the law. Not to mention It's also been their PR and marketing arm that is crippled. Not to mention a high price point for their products, but that's what you pay for quality. Every Sony product I've ever owned has far outlasted any of their contemporaries.
Their business model has not worked out so well for them, but I'm playing Uncharted 3, so its working out for me.
Everything they've claimed about BF3 was almost an outright lie. Actually if you added prone and worsened the console graphics from BF BC2 and add more lighting effects, you've got BF3. I've been play BF since 1942 and I'd prefer this game over MW3, but even I have to admit all the hype and sh* talking that EA did you'd expect the next evolution in modern military shooters and they didn't deliver.

Oct 26th 2011 11:05AM (Joystiq)I agree completely. By the way EA, I enjoy BF3 thoroughly, but EA completely shoved this game out the door just to compete with MW3.
