If you don't know why there are 360 shortages, just take a look at how many consoles Microsoft sold in November and December. Is Microsoft storing up 360s for the GTA4 release? Of course they are -- getting GTA4 was a huge coup for the Xbox 360 right from the very beginning, and they know it. I wouldn't be surprised to see them selling GTA4 bundled right with system.

As for people waiting for PS3 games to come out before buying the system, well that's pretty obvious. The question is whether GT5, MGS4, and the new Final Fantasy will be what makes them pull out their wallets. I'm sure these games will help sell alot of PS3s, but it seems to me the more innovative/exciting games this generation are coming from Europe and North America. I think Little Big Planet could be huge (GOTY even).

I think your logic here is reversed. GTA3 helped sell the Playstation 2, yes. But that's because people saw the PS2 as a GTA3 console, not the other way around. Come April, if Microsoft is smart, that's exactly what they'll be hyping on consumers: that the Xbox 360 is a GTA4 console.

You might be right in that Resistance 2 and Killzone 2 could be better than Halo 3/GOW, but that's not the point. By most accounts, MGS4 will probably be an outstanding game, but will it outsell something like Guitar Hero 3, for example? It's all about mass market appeal and brand consciousness *combined* with game quality. That's what makes a 'killer app' like Halo and anything with that damn Mario in it.
