I was thinking my Jeep Grand Cherokee could use some tough guy decals, like flames and Calvin pissing on the Ford symbol. And a huge, detailed mural of Tobey Keith passionately making out with the American flag on the hood.
I always tell my friends and family I want to buy a smartcar and they just laugh and laugh and laugh. I'd drive that around all the time just to spite them.
I have a '96 Jeep Grand Cherokee...I feel like I have take care of it like it's a dying grandmother. I tend to drive every few days, so at least I save on the highwayman prices of gas.
I once heard what sounded like a young boy giggle at my gamertag (GaryOldmanRulez) and say, "aha, that's so silly. Is Gary an old man?". It's actually the name of best actor in the world my little friend, but your enthusiasm on that day was a blessing compared to the rest of my Xbox Live experience.
What is sacrificed upon total immersion into Skyrim? Choosing one is just far too difficult:
1. Short-term life ambitions 2. A normal sleep schedule 3. Fracturing of relationships between significant other, employer, friends and family 4. Complete and utter neglect of other games for at least three months straight 5. Complete and utter neglect of movies 6. Complete and utter neglect of music 7. Complete and utter neglect of books 8. Complete and utter neglect of meals (snack food excluded) 9. Sense of progress, optimism, gratification and social interaction (normally associated with reality) twisted and inverted into Skyrim's game world. 10. Everything else
Very insightful article, Russ. I've always held fast to the idea that Nintendo had been making mistakes since the era of the Gamecube and your article lays out my suspicions in a succinct, informative way.
I really do still feel like if Nintendo does not drastically reconsider the quality and content of their games (on any of their platforms) they will share the same fate of their once huge competitor, Sega. I forsee them becoming a developer and publisher but not a platform manufacturer. If this is the case, it will highlight and even more desperate need to have solid, quality games that appeal to their core demographic but also reach out to those who are uninterested or who have been disenchanted by the company.
I definitely have to say that, after playing Arkham City for just a few hours, that I completely agree with Griffin about the rape implications and incessant cat-calls (no pun intended, but I'll take it) aimed at Catwoman by the inmates. I understand that these are hardened criminals who have spent years in prison, devoid of female contact, but I just feel like it's so out of place in a Batman game, even a "dark" Batman game. It's especially glaring when you have inmates talking in your ear every two minutes.
It feels like macho teenage fantasy, honestly. I thought Rocksteady might do a little less pandering and be a little more intelligent then your average bro-ham game studio. Even Poison Ivy in Arkham Asylum, while she was hyper-sexualized, was not subject to that kind of insistent, "for the sake of style" sexism.
