New iPod Touch with iOS 4, Retina Display, and Game Center revealed
Sep 1st 2010 2:33PM (Joystiq)Fun for breaks, but I'll take a DS/PSP any and every day!
NintendoWare Weekly: Toribash, Primrose
Jul 12th 2010 12:15PM (Joystiq)Seems like you're rationalizing, and with the bias you're swinging with, it's not surprising you're not able to find things you like. When you've dismissed things before you've tried them it's not surprising you find everything disappointing.
Over the last month WiiWare got:
Jet Rocket, Toribash, Pearl Harbor, Rotozoa, Bejeweled, and The Tales of Bearsworth Manor: Chaotic Conflicts.
I understand that some or most of those games may not be for you, but seriously, if you don't find any of those games interesting, why are you playing games at all?
That's a good list that spans a lot of different types of game play from straight-forward puzzle to 3D platformer to completely experimental, and they're getting plenty of good reviews and fans along the way.
I have two major pet peeves of the gaming industry in general:
1 - Saying a game isn't good when you haven't actually played it
2 - Being biased by one thing or another (usually blind loyalty to a game system) so that you are more likely to dismiss games than consider them
It's been a particularly good month for downloadable games on the Wii (and DSiWare as well with Soul of Darkness and Maestro! Green Groove). I hate to see posts where games are being dismissed when they clearly haven't been played. That attitude is one of the major things keeping the games industry from being more accepted as a mature pass time.
Jett Rocket ending announces Jett Rocket 2
Jun 30th 2010 11:43AM (Joystiq)Have you played the game?
As far as great disappointments go, I can't think of anything more disappointing than gamers who dismiss games as inferior without actually playing them.
Review: Tiger Woods PGA Tour 11 (Wii)
Jun 9th 2010 6:34PM (Joystiq)Did a good job talking about some of the differences between 10 and 11 from someone who reviewed 10 last year.
Catch up on Xenoblade with new trailer
May 27th 2010 1:08PM (Joystiq)Why the cynicism?
I would love to see the game appear in the Press Event and on the floor at E3.
Between this and The Last Story, Nintendo has a couple of great-looking RPGs lined up for the Wii.
Nintendo Power reveals de Blob: The Underground for DS, Wii
May 27th 2010 12:00PM (Joystiq)I love the sound track and general feel of the game.
I thought levels were often too long and big (which says strange to say it now).
Jumping with the Wii Remote was a horrible idea. That should have been mapped to a button and then the game would have been amazing awesomeness instead of occasionally amazing as it is now.
The original is still worth owning if you can get it for around $10, it has a distinct feel to it and is something that is different than any other Wii game out there in a good way.
Interview: Wideload Games' Patrick Curry talks Disney Guilty Party, life after 'Stubbs'
May 20th 2010 12:55PM (Joystiq)Realizing what you want isn't very important, b/c you're just one person in a sea of humanity is growing up.
Deciding that entertainment isn't life and shouldn't be receive the majority of your time and attention is growing up.
So are casual games growing up? I don't know. Maybe in some ways?
...but I do know that dismissing them as somehow beneath you is probably more childish than adult-ish.

Dec 23rd 2009 11:16AM (Joystiq)Swords and Soldiers isn't getting any love either? Great game!
Lost Winds 2 I think is the best game on WiiWare this year, it's pretty highly rated too, (right alongside NyxQuest). Strange to not see either of those two even listed!
