@Ericss Although I do agree, the Vita will be a better handheld device, simply because the Vita has more entertainment capabilities, but please remember how the Nintendo 3DS was released before the PlayStation Vita price was officially announced, so calling Nintendo an arrogant company for pricing their handheld console at the same price as the Vita would be unfair, given how at the time, Nintendo was unaware that the Vita would sell for $250.
Although I will agree that the Nintendo 3DS will be virtually incapable of competing directly with the PlayStation Vita, especially if the Vita is selling at the same price as the 3DS. However, I believe that is why Nintendo announced this rather large price reduction.

Some people may wonder why Nintendo didn't introduce some form of price reductions sooner, such as the instant the price for the PlayStation Vita was announced. That's a really fair question, and it's likely that Nintendo actually did cut prices far before now. However, in the corporate world, price reductions can take months to fully be approved. It's not an easy task to drastically reduce the price on a global scale, so please put that into consideration.

Also, calling the people 'morons' because they purchased the Nintendo 3DS isn't fair, nor is it nice. Handheld consoles aren't exactly microwaves, where you can compare multiple brands to find the best pricing for your specific needs. The Nintendo 3DS has only one main competitor, and that is the PlayStation Vita. Also given how the Vita did not have any announced price at the time, consumers were not able to compare the 'next generation' of handheld gaming, given how the other next-gen device was not yet available.
If anything, we can compare this with the Xbox 360, being the first next generation console. People decided that the graphical capabilities of the Xbox 360 were impressive, and they did not wait to see the competition.
