It's not literally using a spreadsheet. It's the complexity of market rates, angular velocity, energy grids, etc.
Do they still have racial buffs for certain stats? I always hate the idea (in any RPG) that a decision I made in the first 5 minutes could hurt me if the style of play I settle into doesn't match it.
Neither of my characters lasted long. The first was just a trial, the second I think lasted 3 months. Can I check their SP without reactivation?
I think the reason it's so polarising is that many of us dreamed of a game like it for so long, that not finding it enjoyable is pretty crushing. On the surface it has so much potential. It really is a beautiful game. But the steep learning curve causes people to drop out, and resent the game for ruining their dreams of a space mmo.
@Jef Reahard Now you've jumped from insulting people who don't play EVE, to insulting people who might set it aside for a time. That certainly doesn't make me want to reconsider playing. I think a lot of the hate isn't for the game, but for the elitism of the players, and that holds the game back. Maybe that's a part of the reason that other Massively staff are "actively hostile" toward EVE fans.
As far as setting the game aside, I definitely know EVE players who've done exactly that, either suspending their account while they train a 30 day+ skill, or handing off their login info to another player so they can refill the training queue.
if you don't put much stock in players that go 6 months and still think of it as "spreadsheets in space", how will you ever understand why so many people drop out? If the game isn't fun unless you have veteran players to show you around, that is a serious flaw. I want to like EVE, I really do. I like the training system, like the pacing, like that it's a fully developed world. But I don't want to spend my first months in the game begging for a mentor, especially when my full-time job prevents me from playing more than a few hours a month.
@friarcanuck It's entirely possible that they could visit Quebec City, Montreal, or Detroit (then a part of Canada). The Battle of Saratoga for example, involved a British Army based out of Quebec marching south.
To those saying the colonial setting is too small, remember that pre-industrial cities were not metropolises. Philadelphia was the 2nd largest city in the english speaking world, and Germantown, which is now part of Philly, was considered a separate, significant city.
The cities featured in previous AC games would have had similar populations to colonial Philadelphia, Boston, New York, or Williamsburg.
World of Warplanes is adding dragons for that extra kick of historical accuracy

Mar 28th 2012 3:47PM (Massively)Should I reactivate one of my old characters, or should I start a new one?
Is there a guide to help me understand which race/background I should pick from both a roleplay and gameplay standpoints?
What should I do to avoid hitting the "spreadsheet wall"?
