I think the comparison to NPR are apt, and it's laudable that Joysitq is trying to do a more informative and journalistic program about gaming. However, making a show like this that is compelling and interesting is much, much harder than the old format. There's way to much filler, and I feel that these podcasts could be edited down to 15 or 20 minutes without losing anything.

To properly fill an hour show would take a lot more work , a lot more interviews, and a level of journalism that doesn't really exist in the games industry. And since Chris Grant indicated in an earlier comment that the podcasts don't make any money, I doubt they'll get the resources needed to turn the Joystiq show into what it should be.
