Jan 28th 2012 8:30AM (Joystiq)The legality here is clear, but the morality isn't. How immoral is it to download something like this if it is not reasonably obtainable by legal means? The main reason behind any gamer buying games should be to benefit the developer, but at this point any money spent on this game will never trickle down to the people who poured their soul into making it. Furthermore, when a law conflicts with common morality, then the law is failing in its purpose, no?
On the other hand, if I spent a lot of effort making something and 13 years later there were some people that wanted to enjoy my work but couldn't find a legitmate means to do so, then I would want them to by illegimate means.
This is also how I feel with anime. I hate going to fan subs, because I know the makers of the work don't get any money from those, but there are still a lot of series out there which you can't really watch any other way.
I support legal means 100%- I have subs to Netflix/Hulu Plus, I support CrunchyRoll, and I have like 180 games on Steam, but I still think there are times where stuff like this isn't morally apprehensible.
